Averie's POV

"Tay? Tay? Tay? Tay-tay?" I repeatedly poke her face, eager for a reaction. I'm awake and I don't want to be alone. The kitties are also annoying me; they keep meowing. Taylor put up a new gate on the stairs. I can't go downstairs without help from an adult now. Everywhere we go now, these gates pop up in the house. It's like she's trying to fence me in. I tried climbing over it and got yelled at, so I now have to ask for help unless I want to go to time-out.

"Hmm?" Taylor hums without opening her eyes.

"I'm awake," I whisper loudly.

"I can see that, baby," she squints at me in the dim light. It's still dark outside.

"Are you awake now?" I grin, hoping she'll wake up.

"No, it's, uh," she squints at the clock trying to read it before giving up and grabbing her glasses. She always says she's blind in the morning. "It's four in the morning, what are you doing up?"

"I'm sad 'cause I'm alone," I remind her. Daddy slept in my bed last night, but he's not awake either. So I had to see if Taylor was.

"Where's Joe?" Taylor mumbles, probably still sleepy.

"He's sleeping," I inform her.

"Shouldn't you be sleeping?"

"I'm not sleepy," I yawn. I swear I'm not sleepy anymore.

"Well, I'm sleepy, so you can play quietly, or you can come cuddle with me for a little?"

"Cuddles!" I shout excitedly, making her giggle as she lifts the covers before pulling me onto the bed.

I shuffle over to be as close as possible to Taylor. I really missed her when we went to London. Every time I'm in London, I feel scared now because bad things always happen there. Like my mummy dying or JJ stealing me. I like it here with Taylor and Daddy in New York. I want to stay.

"How about we rest our eyes for a little?" Taylor suggests, and I immediately close my eyes. Taylor pulls me close as she rubs my back gently. She even slides her hand under the back of my shirt, allowing me to relish in the skin-to-skin contact. It's peaceful, and I know everything will be better because Taylor's here.

When I wake up again, I'm alone in the bed. That makes me sad because where did Taylor go? She was just right here. She's been gone a lot this week for work, and I miss her. I like spending time with Daddy, but it's not the same.

He's not as good as Taylor when it comes to playing games. He also spills a lot during our tea parties. We made some arts and crafts yesterday. He made a boring puppet-bag creature. It was all different shades of blue. Mine was way cooler like he said, so I don't know why he didn't use more color or glitter.

I jump off the bed and head to the kitchen. Everyone needs food or coffee so they must be there. I grin happily when I see the gate open as I bounce down the steps. I peek my head out the doorway and spot Daddy. "Hey Nugget, did you sleep okay last night? You know you can wake me up anytime," Daddy greets me in the upstairs hallway. He must've just come up.

"Uh-huh," I run and hug his leg. Even though he's a little silly, I like it when he's here with me. Daddy said he's taking a long break from work so he can focus on me more. He also said some more grown-up words but I don't really remember them all.

"I made waffles; does that sound okay?" Daddy strokes my head, probably trying to fix my bedhead. Taylor always says I look crazy when I wake up.

"Where's Taytay?" I mumble.
