Averie's POV
"Tay? Tay? Taylor? Tayyyyylooooorrrrr?" I whined into her ear as I tried to wake her up. We're back in New York now. I don't know if we're ever going to go back home. Taylor doesn't seem as bothered by that idea as Daddy does. He seems worried about a lot lately.
"Yes?" Taylor grumbled as she turned over on the couch, still napping from her late work night.
"Are you finally awake?" I huffed, crossing my arms.
"Yes, I'm finally awake," she parroted back, her eyes still squinting in my direction.
"Can you help me? I want Meredith to come to my tea party, but she keeps running away," I told her instantly, my face nearly touching hers so she could understand the urgency of the situation. Daddy said to leave the poor cat alone but I didn't like that answer.
Taylor raised an eyebrow. "Have you been chasing her around the house?" she asked, smoothing my hair down with her hand. I think that she needs to do that to her own hair because it looks a little wild. I won't tell her because I don't want to upset her feelings, especially when I need her help.
"No....she was running away from me, I wasn't chasing her," I explained quickly. Daddy already told me to stop running in the house today, and I didn't want Taylor to scold me too.
Taylor chuckled, scooping me up onto the couch with her. I'm not sure if she can really see me though, because she hasn't put her glasses on and Daddy said Taylor must have her glasses to see. "We really need to get you some play dates or something to keep you occupied." I sat on her stomach, and she looked up at me with a small smile.
"But I don't have any friends here. My friends are at school in London, and Daddy said no more school," I reminded her because I heard him on the phone.
"Do you want to go back to school? You know there are schools here in America, too?"
"Really?" I hadn't thought of that. I'd been to the big red store with Taylor to get her new album, but mostly, we stayed inside since she'd been working more. She used to spend a lot of time with me before, but lately, she'd been so busy.
"Yes, silly. If you want to go to school, I can look into enrolling you somewhere nearby. I think Daddy and I can talk about it later today."
"Would I have the same teacher?"
"Um, no, you'd have a new teacher," she explained gently. "Maybe you could go to school with James?"
"Then I don't want to go." I shook my head. I didn't want a new teacher. I'd already had to move to so many different places. I didn't want something new again.
""James wouldn't be in your class; she's too little," Taylor started to explain.
"I don't want a new teacher," I interrupted, crossing my arms.
"Oh, okay." She patted my arm reassuringly. "We can figure it out."
"Good," I muttered, sliding off her. I'd get Meredith by myself. Taylor was being mean, trying to send me somewhere new and unfamiliar.
I scurried down the hall, peeking behind every chair and curtain to find Meredith. She always hid in spots she thought I couldn't reach, but I was getting really good at finding her.
She only likes to be by me when I'm sleeping. I don't know why she does that but I don't like that. I wish Taylor had a baby cat that I could always play with. It's not as fun here anymore since everyone works a lot. Taylor used to play with me a lot more but now she has to nap because she works late in the night. Daddy is, well, he has played with me a lot more recently. Unfortunately, right now, he has an online doctor meeting.
