"Kim's daughter did fall from the balcony, but she wasn't seriously injured. Her grandmother said that a tree branch extends near the bedroom balcony, and a cat often plays there. It seems the girl climbed to catch the cat, but the branch couldn't hold her weight. Luckily, there were bushes below, so she wasn't hurt but was in shock. Her mother wasn't home because she was at work, so there was some confusion, and they thought the child was seriously hurt. When I got to the hospital, I was worried about her condition. Once it was clear she was fine, I called you because the hospital is near the station."
Inside the car, Aphros tried to explain to his companion what had happened, glancing at Paint's reaction. Despite asking earlier about the child's condition, Paint sat with his head resting on his hand, looking out the window without making eye contact.
Aphros didn't intend to help his ex more than just bringing him there. But seeing Kim's distressed state, he decided to find out where the child was. He met the child's grandmother, who gave Kim a disapproving look but talked to Aphros. After confirming the child wasn't seriously injured, she sent Kim away. It seems what Khun In said was true—the two must have had a big fight, leading the mother to keep the child away from Kim.
Aphros had no other feelings or pity. If he had, he wouldn't have called Paint to see the situation firsthand. He wanted to show his love that he was genuinely sincere. But then...
"Are you mad at me?" Aphros' large hand moved to hold Paint's arm and then his hand, feeling relieved when the child didn't pull away. "I'm sorry I broke my promise."
Aphros had promised not to meet or be alone with Kim and to tell Paint everything. Then, all he could do was explain everything.
"Please don't be mad at me."
"What if I am?" Paint asked.
Despite usually being fearless, Aphros' heart sank.
"I'd be very sad." Aphros swore he wasn't faking his sorrow.
His sad tone came from the heart. He squeezed Paint's hand tighter, gently tugging as if to ask for attention.
"Do you want to see me sad?" Aphros asked.
"Stop sounding like a puppy and just drive. The smell is already making me sick."
"Smell? Do I smell?" Aphros was startled. He had recently talked to Khun In, who mentioned his nephew complained about an old person's smell.
Someone who was once as confident as Aphros then felt unsure. No matter how much he sniffed, everything seemed normal. Maybe nongs have a keener sense of smell.
No way!
He couldn't be getting old.
Should I go back to the gym and quit high-calorie foods?
Aphros, who claimed not to care about his image since leaving showbiz, felt a chill. With a young boyfriend, what if Paint left him because of aging? If that happened, he'd crawl and beg the boy to stay. Aphros was sure he'd do anything if Paint asked. But he also believed Paint wouldn't want to hurt him.
"It's not you. It's the seat." Paint mumbled and shifted uncomfortably on the seat, despite riding in this car more often than Aphros' nieces and nephews.
Aphros took a deep breath, trying to identify the smell. It wasn't a new car scent since this car was three years old. Then it hit him.
"I don't like this perfume." Paint clarified.
The nong didn't need to say it again. Aphros knew it was Kim's perfume. The faint sweet scent in the car wasn't candy-sweet but more of a seductive sweetness that made you want to devour the wearer. Aphros hadn't noticed it until Paint pointed it out.
