...
Lana hesitated for a moment before continuing. "There's more. After you didn't respond, I went to your office building to find you. The receptionist said you'd left. I was about to go home, then I saw you in your car. I followed after your car and ended up seeing you with... a woman. You were at her apartment."
Anakin's eyes widened in surprise. "You followed me?"
Lana nodded, her voice trembling. "Yes. I saw you with her. You kissed her."
Anakin looked taken aback. "Lana, that's... her name is Carmen. We had an on-and-off thing a few months ago, but it never meant anything to me...I wasn't in love with her."
Lana felt a pang of pain. "But I saw you kiss her. How did you end up there?"
Anakin sighed, running a hand through his hair. "Carmen called me and talked about the post. I knew it was just a tactic for her to talk to me, but I felt vulnerable and agreed to meet her. I didn't want to kiss her back, Lana. I left after half an hour. Nothing happened, and then I drove to you."
A tear rolled down Lana's cheek. Anakin reached out and gently wiped it away with his hand. "I'm sorry for not hearing you out, for blocking you and jumping to conclusions."
Lana looked into his eyes, seeing the sincerity in them. "Anakin, I was so scared and confused. I thought I'd lost you."
He pulled her into a tight embrace, his voice soft and filled with regret. "You haven't lost me, Lana. I'm here, and I want to make things right. I should have trusted you."
Lana buried her face in his chest, finding comfort in his warmth. "Thank you for coming here, for listening. I care about you so much, Anakin."
"I care about you too," he murmured, holding her close. "We'll get through this together. I promise."

After they sat on the couch for a few more minutes, the tension between them began to ease. Lana looked up at Anakin, their eyes meeting.
He smiled softly. "I really like your apartment."
She laughed, a genuine sound that lightened the mood. "Thank you. It's nothing compared to yours, I guess."
Anakin's smile widened, and he reached out to gently brush a stray lock of hair from her face.

Ten minutes later, Anakin glanced at his watch and sighed. "I have to leave soon," he said, a hint of reluctance in his voice.
Lana nodded, understanding but wishing he could stay longer. "I know."
They stood up, and Anakin pulled her into a tight embrace. "I'm really sorry for everything," he murmured.
Lana hugged him back just as tightly. "Me too."
He leaned down and kissed her, a tender goodbye that left her feeling warm and hopeful. "I'll call you tomorrow," he promised.
"I'll be waiting," she replied, her heart fluttering with anticipation.
With one last smile, Anakin walked to the door. He paused and turned back to look at her, his expression full of emotion. Then he was gone, leaving Lana standing in her apartment.
