The morning sun cast a warm glow over the Blue Moon Sect, illuminating the lush gardens and ancient pavilions. Birds chirped cheerfully, and the scent of blooming flowers filled the air. Lin Yu stretched as he emerged from his room, his cheeks still a bit pink from the previous night’s encounter.
Lin Yu wandered to the dining hall, where Xu Wei was already seated, poking at his breakfast with a distracted expression. Lin Yu took a seat across from him, trying to act nonchalant.
“Morning,” Lin Yu greeted, avoiding direct eye contact.
“Morning,” Xu Wei replied, his eyes darting to Lin Yu before quickly looking away. There was a moment of awkward silence, broken only by the sound of chopsticks on porcelain bowls.
Lin Yu, trying to lighten the mood, grinned. “You look like you’ve seen a ghost. Didn’t sleep well?”
Xu Wei smirked, though his eyes remained serious. “You could say that. And you? Any… interesting dreams?”
Lin Yu nearly choked on his rice, his face heating up. “N-Nope! Slept like a log.”
Xu Wei chuckled, shaking his head.
After breakfast, they made their way to the training grounds, where disciples were practicing their techniques. The training ground was a wide open space surrounded by bamboo groves and blooming cherry blossoms, creating a serene yet invigorating atmosphere.
Xu Wei watched Lin Yu as he sparred with another disciple, admiring his graceful movements and quick reflexes. Despite his usual calm demeanor, Xu Wei couldn’t focus on his own training, his thoughts constantly drifting back to Lin Yu.
Lin Yu, sensing Xu Wei’s gaze, paused and looked over. “Hey, you’re slacking off. Need me to spar with you to get you moving?”
Xu Wei shook his head, smirking. “I’m just making sure you’re not getting rusty.”
Lin Yu rolled his eyes but smiled, feeling a mix of amusement and curiosity. “Yeah, right.”
Later that afternoon, they were summoned by the sect’s elders. The sect’s meeting hall was grand, with high ceilings adorned with intricate carvings and large windows that let in beams of sunlight, illuminating the room in a golden glow.
“We have a new mission for you,” one of the elders announced. “There have been reports of a powerful artifact attracting dark forces. We need you to investigate and secure it.”
Xu Wei nodded, trying to appear focused while his thoughts were still a bit jumbled from the morning. “Understood. We’ll handle it.”
As they left the meeting hall, Lin Yu nudged Xu Wei playfully. “Think you can keep your mind on the mission this time?”
Xu Wei smirked, giving Lin Yu a sideways glance. “As long as you don’t distract me.”
Lin Yu laughed, shaking his head while blushing slightly “Me? Distract you? Never.”
The next day, they set out on their mission. The path led them through dense forests and picturesque landscapes. The trees were tall and ancient, their leaves rustling in the gentle breeze. Flowers of every color dotted the ground, and streams of crystal-clear water trickled by, adding to the serene beauty of the surroundings.
As they traveled, the tension between them was palpable. Lin Yu, walking slightly ahead, stole glances at Xu Wei, his mind swirling with confusion and curiosity. Xu Wei, usually so composed, seemed more vulnerable and open, his gaze often lingering on Lin Yu.
They decided to camp by a small river one evening, the sky painted with the hues of the setting sun. Lin Yu gathered firewood while Xu Wei set up their tents. When they finally sat down by the fire, the crackling flames and the sounds of the night added to the intimate atmosphere.
The firelight danced on their faces as they sat close together, the warmth of the flames and the cool night air creating a cozy contrast.
Lin Yu fidgeted with a twig, glancing at Xu Wei from the corner of his eye.“So, how did you get into cultivating?” Lin Yu asked, trying to break the silence.
Xu Wei smiled softly. “It’s a long story. Maybe I’ll tell you sometime.”Lin Yu chuckled.
“You’re such a mystery, you know that?”
“Am I?” Xu Wei’s eyes twinkled with amusement. As the fire crackled and the stars began to twinkle above, Lin Yu felt a strange sense of contentment.
“Hey, Lin Yu,” Xu Wei said suddenly, his voice softer. “Do you ever wonder what life would be like if things were different?”Lin Yu looked at him, curiosity piqued.
“Different how?”Xu Wei shrugged, his gaze fixed on the fire. “I don’t know. If we weren’t cultivators. If we were just… ordinary people.”Lin Yu considered this, then smiled
. “Maybe we’d still be friends. Or maybe we’d meet in some other way.”Xu Wei’s eyes met Lin Yu’s, and for a moment, the world seemed to stand still.
“Yeah. Maybe we would.”The silence that followed was filled with unspoken words and shared understanding.
Lin Yu’s heart raced, and he felt an inexplicable urge to close the distance between them. Before he could act on it, Xu Wei broke the spell.
“We should get some rest. Big day tomorrow.”Lin Yu nodded, feeling a mix of relief and disappointment. “Yeah. Goodnight, Xu Wei.”
“Goodnight, Lin Yu.”
As they retreated to their tents, Lin Yu couldn’t shake the feeling that something significant had just happened. He lay awake for a while, staring at the tent ceiling, his thoughts drifting back to Xu Wei’s words and the look in his eyes.
