Tyler Asks me to give him a minute, before running towards the Castine car workshop down the road, the one Patrick's dad runs. I just stand outside the door of the bookstore, not quite sure what to do with myself.
when he gets back he has a second helmet under his arm.
"Did they just let you borrow that?" I say confused, Maverick, Patrick's dad is usually pretty greedy so I'm surprised if he was this generous just out of the blue.
A grin spreads across his face, not the kind that intimidates you, but the kind that you'll trust your life with.
"Nah, but don't worry about that. They won't even notice that it's gone"
I can't help but laugh. Great, he's a thief.
Tyler locks the door to the store before crossing the street. He looks so casual when he walks, so confident.
"I really hope you didn't borrow this one as well" I comment jokingly while we walk. I truly really hope it's his.
Tyler just shrugs in response. Great.
When we approach the bike, He sits down on it. And before putting on his own helmet, he passes the one he just borrowed to me. "Helmet" he just mumbles.
The helmet is tight and extremely claustrophobic, but when I'm first going on a motorcycle I will at least avoid smashing my head if we crash.
I watch him putting on his own helmet. I definitely don't look as badass like him. Sitting there in baggy black jeans and a black leather jacket, he looks straight out of a movie.
When hes done putting his own helmet on, he makes a beckoning gesture with his right hand towards himself. "Come here, let me check you"
I get kinda thrown off, but I move closer to him. He calmly goes over the strap under my chin, making sure it's closed correctly.
"Alright. You're good to go." He concluded. "Jump on"
I again do as he say, before even giving it a thought.
I get on the motorcycle behind him, not quite sure what to do with my arms. Tyler must have read my mind as he tells me to hold on to his shoulders."You ready?"
"Not really, but fuck it I guess"
And so we take off.
Driving through the streets almost feels like flying. Each time we make a turn I feel the adrenaline rush, scared we might hit the ground as we move in synchronously with the bike.
At numerous times I wonder what I'm really doing. Sitting on this random guys motorcycle. Putting my life in his hands. But each time I think about it, I conclude with the fact that I've been so desperate for so long, longing for something new. This can't be anything but healthy for me.
———————————————————————————
we get to the pizza place all in one piece. Luckily. Tyler parks pretty much right outside.
Both of us take of our helmets, almost on command.
"Uh, What do you want?" I say "I can just run inside"
He takes a second to think.
"I'll have whatever you want, but order a small one. That way we can fit it in the bag." He explains, clapping his hand on a bag that hangs behind my left thigh.
"Alright then. Don't go anywhere." I say, getting off the bike.
When I walk in the store, I notice the familiar back of an head. Daisy, my best friend stands by the counter.
I walk up to her, putting my hand on her shoulder. "Hi stranger"
Daisy startles, and I almost feel her heart drop.
We both break out in laughter when she realises it's me."Oh my god you scared me Lan!!" She exclaimed "I was completely caught up in the menu!"
"I could tell! I swear the fear in your eyes felt real!"
"Damn Lan, you don't know about my biggest fear? Getting murdered at the pizza place!" She comments.
I laugh at her reply, Daisy is literally the only thing that can make me fully happy for a while.
"Hey, jokes aside. Where were you yesterday? I missed you at the party!" Daisy asks with a slightly judgy expression on her face.
"I didn't have the energy to be honest. I'll come to the next one!" I explain.
I decide to order while we stand there. 1x small pepperoni pizza."No but seriously, you should have been there! EMMA and JEFF made out!!" Daisy says dramatically, making her jaw drop at the end of her sentence.
I reply with the same shocked expression. "NO, YOUR KIDDING?!? Finally!!!!" I exclaim with a smile on my face.
Me and Daisy has tried setting Emma and Jeff up for YEARS. They're the perfect cheerleader x soccer player match! I can't even explain how happy I am about it.
My pizza is already done at this point and I Realise I didn't really answer Daisy's question. I continue, "it's a kind long story though and my pizzas done now, how about we catch up X go shopping tomorrow?"
Daisy smiles "of course!"
I grab the pizza from the counter.
"Try to finish looking at the menu before a murderer arrives!" I laugh. When I get back to Tyler, I suddenly get this weird feeling in my gut. I don't want Daisy to see me on a motorcycle with a random guy the day after my boyfriend leaves for Europe. Not that I'm doing something inappropriate with this dude, but it just feels wrong.
I hand the pizza to Tyler before quickly throwing the helmet back on my head.
I get a weird look from Tyler, but I decide to ignore it.I make sure to keep an eye on Daisy inside the store, but she seems quite occupied with the menu still.
I get on the bike and we drive off again. The happiness of "getting away" doesn't last long, when I get eye contact with a familiar set of eyes when we pass a parked car.
Patrick.
Fuck, shit, oh my fucking goooood.
Of course it has to be Stephen's best friend.
I'm not sure why I didn't realise he would be nearby, Daisy doesn't go ANYWHERE without her boyfriend.
