Part 23: Missed Opportunity

"Hey, can you pass this on to Y/N?" A stranger approached Chifuyu, Smiley, and Angry, holding out a folded note that appeared to be a love letter. Chifuyu quietly examined it for a moment, without uttering a word. Smiley and Angry remained silent, respecting that the decision rested solely with Chifuyu, your closest friend.

Without hesitation, Chifuyu responded with a flat expression directed at the random guy. "Why should I?" he asked, his tone tinged with disinterest. The random guy scoffed in response. "Seriously? Because you're her best friend. It's not like you two are a thing or anything," he retorted, a hint of frustration in his voice. While the guy had a point—they weren't together—Chifuyu couldn't help feeling irritated. After all, he harbored feelings for you.

"How about no? Now back off," Chifuyu replied sharply, rolling his eyes as he lightly nudged the guy's shoulder in dismissal before walking away. Meanwhile, Smiley swiftly picked up the letter. "Don't worry. I've got you covered," Smiley chuckled reassuringly.

As the twins caught up with Chifuyu, he groaned in frustration, wondering aloud why Smiley had taken the letter despite his refusal to do so.

"Why did you take it? It's not like she's going to read it," Chifuyu sighed, frustration evident in his voice. He had grown accustomed to being approached by random guys with love letters meant for you. Often, these individuals were too shy or unsure to deliver them directly, turning to Chifuyu for assistance—a role he consistently refused to play.

As they walked together, Chifuyu couldn't shake off the annoyance of being repeatedly drawn into these situations. Despite his efforts to avoid unnecessary complications, the persistence of admirers seeking his help continued to test his patience.

Smiley chuckled darkly as he started to unfold the letter. "But this should be interesting. Let's see what kind of sick joke he's written, hmm?" Smiley mused aloud as he scanned the contents with intense focus. Despite Chifuyu's outward display of disinterest, a curiosity gnawed at him to know what exactly was written in the letter.

"You shine brighter than the sun. You glow more than the moon. Pft, this is crap. Whoa! He even put 20 bucks in here," Smiley remarked, half-amused and half-disappointed. He sheepishly extracted the $20 bill from the letter, momentarily considering pocketing it until he glanced at Chifuyu's expression. Seeing the frown on Chifuyu's face, Smiley sighed and handed the letter over to him. "Here. It's yours."

"Huh? Why are you giving it to me? Just take it," Chifuyu said, gently pushing Smiley's hand away with a puzzled expression. Though Chifuyu didn't protest, Smiley chuckled and accepted the money. Smiley often joked that he already acted like Chifuyu was your boyfriend, playfully suggesting he had the right to take the money. However, since Chifuyu didn't lay claim to it, Smiley decided to pocket the money instead.

It was the last day of the school year for the third-year students, and for some reason, you were absent. Meanwhile, the three boys, Chifuyu, Smiley, and Angry, found themselves in a random empty classroom, choosing it as a spot to hang out. They settled near the window, idly chatting, when Angry suddenly noticed a line of people forming downstairs.

"Hey, what's that?" Angry exclaimed, being the first to point it out to his friends.

Chifuyu examined the peculiar queue below and shook his head in confusion. "What are they lining up for?" he muttered to himself, his curiosity piqued. Following the line to its end, his eyes suddenly widened in shock as he realized you were at the center of it all. It dawned on him—these guys were actually queuing up to confess their feelings to you on the seniors' last day.

Chifuyu panicked as he recalled the tradition of giving the second button of their uniform as a sign of affection. His mind raced with the implications of such a long line forming just for that purpose. "Oh no," he muttered under his breath.
