"I saw an ad in the newspaper about a housesitting job. Since I was short on cash, I decided to sign up"

Mina found herself standing in the middle of a dark neighbourhood after being dropped off by her parents.

"Quite an eerie neighbourhood... I should quickly find the house and get inside", she thought to herself.

She looked around as she walked along the dark path.

There were only a few streetlights around the area but they were all spaced far apart. Though the houses were lit up quite well to the point where Mina could still see where she was going.

As she checked her phone for the house number, she noticed someone at their mail box just a few houses down.

She thought it would be quicker to ask them rather than searching around all night.

"Excuse me, ma'am. I'm trying to find a house on this street. Could you please help me out?"

"Sure, which house are you looking for?"

"I'm looking for... Miss Nayeon's house. She hired me to look after it while she was gone"

"Nayeon? Huh, that's interesting. She usually asks me to watch her place"

Mina tilted her head in confusion as the woman rubbed her chin.

"I'm Jihyo, by the way"

"Nice to meet you, Jihyo. I'm Mina. Could you tell me where Miss Nayeon's house is?"

"Of course. It's two houses down. This one's my house and our neighbour Momo is in the middle. Nayeon's place will be just beside hers"

"Thank you, Jihyo"

"No problem. I'll be off now, then. I just got my new home automation system in the mail. I'm really excited to use it"

She showed Mina a box labelled 'Clap Clap'.

"Oh, that sounds interesting. What does it do?"

"Well, it's supposed to make life a whole lot easier. You know, controlling the lights, temperature, even the security system. Pretty cool stuff", Jihyo explained.

"Wow, that does sound convenient. Why did you decide to get it?"

"Partly because of the recent disappearances happening around here lately. But mainly because our neighbour Momo got one and won't stop raving about it. She left for vacation right after installing it. Said it has built-in surveillance systems and everything. I guess she wanted to keep an eye on things while she's away"

"Oh, I see...", Mina nodded, still thinking about the disappearances she just mentioned.

"Well, have a good night, Mina"

"You too. Thanks again for the directions, Jihyo"

"No worries. If you need anything, come over and let me know"

Jihyo went back into her house as Mina headed to Nayeon's house.

"This must be it. I think Nayeon mentioned that she left the keys in the backyard"

She went around the house to the backyard and searched around.

She eventually found it in a flower pot just beside the back door.

"Found it. She should've at least told me where she left them"

She headed back to the front and opened the door to find the house pitch black inside.
