"The truth of the matter is that you always know the right thing to do. The hard part is doing it."
General Norman Schwarzkopf
20 BBY
War is inhumane. It exposes defects, corruption, and destruction, but in exchange, it purges the weak as the strong at last makes itself known. Because of their corruption, the republic was unable to prevent war and paid a heavy price for it. Their assumed notion of anti-war and slavery gives them hope for a peaceful ideal, but they are all talk and no bite, which is why they fall short.
The republic failed my father, who believed he was fighting for the greater good, but in reality, the senators' entertainment was compromised as they feared the Confederacy would undermine their authority. Above the anaxes fighting the separatist fleet of Bulwark Mark 1 class led by Dua Ningo was Captain Marcus Ringbey, who during the last years of the war had commanded his own flagship, a Victory class.
Sadly, my father passed away above the skies of anaxes even after the Republic triumphed in that war, despite the fact that he had destroyed a large portion of Captain Terrinald Screed's Bulwark fleet in the late 20th BBY.
Since then, Uncle Terrinald has taken on the role of a mentor in a way, offering to pay for my admission to the Carida Academy. As a result, when I reached a certain age, I was taken there to start my training to become a naval officer in order to preserve my father's legacy and that of my family.
I have drawn the interest of numerous officers in the Imperial Academy with my distinct military tactics, competitive athletic abilities, and unarmed combat skills. And because of my relationship with my uncle, who was referred to as the Emperor's right-hand man, it brought attention to my name after extensive training and pressure from Uncle Admiral Terrinald Screed's mentorship.
Even though I was given the opportunity to join the Imperial Military, I feel that serving in the Navy would be the best way for me to uphold my father's legacy because our naval forces are a representation of who we are. I did, however, accept it for a brief while, learning everything I could about ground military strategy before being removed on the advice of unidentified superiors who were even more impressed with my potential in the navy.
I had to rely on myself after my uncle was compelled to serve in the Outer Rim, but it wasn't a big deal because I was usually able to understand the standard procedures, formations, and even the best combat ship-to-ship.

After a great deal of hardship in Carida and the graduation ceremony, some of us received promotions; others were granted because of our diligence and the support of a sponsor who acted as a mentor. Still others received promotions because of their family's success in the core world. I got promoted to lieutenant because of my reputation at the Imperial Academy, which impressed a lot of trainers. I stood out with my cool, collected demeanour mixed with a relentless sense of purpose. It was said that I had an unwavering sense of justice that verged on idealism, combined with a tactical intelligence akin to that of the greatest strategists.
A few of us received our assignments through the datapad, while others were compelled to take on lower-level positions like managing a station or outpost. Fortunately for me, though, Captain Alara Voss, who noticed my reputation at the academy, took an interest in me and offered me a job aboard the "Reliant," an Arquitens-class light cruiser.
The majority of my academy classmates were assigned to the same ship, some as crew members, troopers, or gunners. Upon approaching the hangar, I noticed the shuttle assigned to transport me to the "reliant." Several of my old classmates were thrilled about the opportunity to serve a newly transformed galactic empire and provide safety, security, and order to our society.
