By now, Ashley is four years old and in her first year of kindergarten. She has made a few friends from her previous year at preschool, but they've come and gone. All the friends she made have moved. Not to mention that Bethany currently has more friends than Ashley did, because Ashley was the one who cried a lot during daycare when she was two years old.
Dylan moved, and from what Ashley's mother heard, he moved to a private school that you can take starting from kindergarten, and you can learn a lot of things unlike regular schools.
When her mother explained the whole thing to Ashley, she was jealous and immediately asked if she could move. However, her mother said private school is too expensive and she doesn't need to be smart. There was one reason why Ashley wanted to move so badly.
Bethany is also going to go to the same kindergarten as her, and she doesn't want to see her ever again. But when Ashley told her mother all about it, her mother didn't see it, and whenever something involving Bethany happens, her mom always says, "You're just friends. People who fight a lot turn out to be friends."
Ashley had to deal with Bethany all over again as she entered kindergarten. A few days of kindergarten have passed since something happened.
Currently, Ashley is eating lunch beside some other girls who talk to each other when Ashley has no friends, which makes her jealous. Suddenly, the girl beside Ashley turned to face her. "Hello." She said nicely to her. "Hi." Ashley said, feeling excited that someone was talking to her. "Do you want to go to my birthday party? I'm handing out the invitations left, and besides my best friends, I still have room for a few people." She asked. "Um." Ashley managed, goes to say. Someone is inviting her to a birthday party. That doesn't sound normal to Ashley. Not to mention, no one has ever invited her to a party before.
Ashley breathed and processed what she meant. "When is the party?" Ashley asked. "October thirty first. Oh, by the way, my name's Danielle. Yours?" "My name is Ashley, and sure, I'll attend. A birthday on Halloween! Who else is invited?" Ashley replied. "The people who are sitting on this table. My friends." Danielle replied, waving her hands around. Bethany glanced at Ashley, then back at Danielle.
But Ashley didn't care. At least she is invited to her first ever birthday party!
It is the day of the party. The weeks leading up to it were actually quite fun because the teachers taught them how to carve a pumpkin safely with their help on Monday and the week before they went on a field trip.
They still had school because it was a Tuesday. The school day dragged on forever until finally it was seven p.m., which was when the party started.
Or more accurately, when trick or treating started because they were going trick or treating first, then eating dinner and partying around. Ashley thought some houses were scary because the decorations were creepy, and those were the houses she didn't go into. However, Bethany and her friends went in to get more candy. Of course they were scared of creepy houses when they were three, but Ashley felt a little embarrassed that she was the only person who skipped the creepy houses this year.
"What a baby." Bethany would say. "We'll, you were also scared last year." Ashley shot back. "That was last year. If you want more candy, you gotta go to as many houses as you can." Well, she is going to as many houses as she can; she just can't go face her fears.
