I hate Bethany.

I hated her since I knew her from the start, but I'll always remember the punching feeling I got when I saw her kiss my first crush. One little thing ruined my whole year. Of all the girls who could've kissed Alex that day, it was her.

And I never talked to Alex again. I never admitted I loved him either.

And I was glad when the breakup feeling was over, and I'm so happy when school is over.

Right now it's summer, and I wish it could be summer forever. I wish I could be in kindergarten again, where I never would have to feel the pain of homework, breakups, and all this drama.

There's only one thing I want this summer. To visit Carly again—to see her again, because I miss her so much.

"Mom," I said one night while washing the dishes. "Yes?" She said. "I want to see Carly again. I miss her. When can I?" I asked. "Well, have you started doing research on how much a plane ticket would cost?" Mom asked.

I stacked the nearest plate. Actually, I have been looking at plane tickets already. "Around 300 dollars. I forgot the exact price, but I know for sure it's around that." I said. "Hmm. Are you planning to pay? Do you even have that much money?" Mom asked. I shoved in the fork. "No," I said. "I don't even have half."

"Sure, I'll buy you the ticket. But you pay for food and whatever else you want to buy in New York. Deal?" Mom said. I looked at her. "Really? Am I dreaming?" I said. Mom rolled her eyes. "Deal," I said.

"Except it's just for one person, right?" Mom asked. "I'm hoping the ticket you're planning to buy is not for the whole family. Your brother won't come. He will find it boring and would rather be with his friends." She said. "You've been begging these past two weeks, and that's one thing I'm worried about. That's why I haven't said yes earlier."

"Yes. Just me. To New York. To see my friend."

"That's cool! But I have something even better to tell you." Angela said when I told her my mom has agreed to let go to New York to see Carly. Right now I'm over at her house, in the living room.

"My mom got a cheaper plane ticket to New York! Cheap even for three people. You can go with us." Angela said. "Like if we combine seats together."

Hmm. I thought about it. That did sound good. "Sure. My mom hasn't confirmed payment yet, so I'll go tell her. Why are you going to New York?" I said.

"Um." Angela said. She sighed. "I'm divorced."

Suddenly it all made sense. I've seen her mom around her house, but never her dad. Her dad must be in New York. "And your dad works there. You want to go to New York to see your dad again." I said. "Right?" "You said it, not me." Angela said. "I'll go ask my mom. Wait here for a bit." She walked to the kitchen, where her mom is making dinner. After a moment, she came back.

"She said yes!" Angela said. I smiled. "Now I just have to confirm something with my mother tomorrow. Today I'll go home after dinner at your house and maybe a few moments here." I said. "Okay! The flight is this Thursday. Come back at 1pm that day and come with your luggage." Angela said.

"Dinners ready!"

Time flew by; suddenly it was Thursday. I'm so excited. To see Carly, of course. She will also get to meet Angela, my new friend from the first year of middle school. I walked until I got to Angela's house.
