"Two Weeks."

That's how long it's been.

Alexander had woken up a few days earlier. When he did, you were the first person he called. You couldn't really express how good it was to hear his voice.

You intended to jump on a plane to see him, but he advised against it. Explaining that he would be bedridden for a while and it didn't make sense for you to rush over when he was clearly alright. You complained vehemently, but finally relented in the end. He was still recovering, you didn't want to cause any unnecessary stress.

That's why you were patiently waiting. He'd call often, everyday in fact. Sometimes in the morning or the afternoon just to say hello. Law enforcement on his side were busy tracking down Jefferson and tracing all the pieces connected to the corruption. Renard was doing his part on this side. With any luck by the end of the month the organization would be disbanded.

It all felt like smooth sailing.

Another sigh escaped your lips and Hank looked over. You were laying on the couch with a book on your chest. The tea you'd made earlier was just sitting on the desk, untouched.

"We should call a doctor, she hasn't even had a sip of tea all day." Hank's comment earned a chuckle from Wu.

"I know, it's been like that all week. You think she's finally gotten over this tea addiction?"

"It's not an addiction, I can stop at anytime!"

They just continued to laugh and you turned in the opposite direction, back pointed towards them.

"Just let me wallow in peace."

You could hear the steps of someone approaching. From the strides you assumed Renard. It wasn't Nick, he wasn't that tall, or heavy. Your mind seemed to trace through the list of people in your mind with similar stature and weight.

When it registered, your eyes widened and in an instant you were on your feet. You stared, and Alexander offered a smile, hands in his pocket. He looked great. You wouldn't be able to tell what he'd gone through just by looking at him.

"It's good to see you too, Ms. Jane."

You didn't really say anything, just ran into his chest. He was a bit surprised, but when he felt how tightly you were holding on, he returned the embrace happily.

Wu and Hank just smiled from their spot and Nick walked in, looking over.

"You're back."

Nick's words made you pull back. Alexander's eyes lingered on you for a few seconds before he turned to Nick.

"I came to express my gratitude."

"If you want to thank anyone you should thank (Y/N). Her father daughter duo helped us a lot."

"Yes, I was informed that Patrick was here. That must have been an interesting meeting. I was curious what it would be like having the two of you in one room. It must have been entertaining."

"Oh, it was entertaining alright."

Your cheeks tint red when you remember the teasings. You glare, indicating that they better not say a word. Alexander is puzzled when he sees Wu and Hank make zipping motions against their lips.

"Is there something I should know about?"

"Nope, nothing, nada, zilch. Let's head over to your office yeah? Your desk must be full of paperwork." You pull him along before he can say anymore.

Given what they were about to expose, your need to drag Alexander away was reasonable. The moment he gets through the door, there is a pile of folders on his desk. He laughs.

"It seems they saw it fit to make sure I am occupied when I return."

"Yeah, geez that's a heavy load. They are ruthless. You were kidnapped for goodness sake. You should really get a kettle in here."

You look over searching for an outlet where he can plug one in.

"Is tea really the only thing on your mind? I'm starting to think you may have an addiction."

"It's not an addiction I can stop at any time!" You protest. He chuckles with a nod as he moves over to the desk.

"Despite what you might think, Benedict handled a lot of my forms. This is merely a piece of what it could have been."

"Who is Benedict?"

You're positive that you've never met him. Alexander flips open a folder.

"He is my replacement in a sense."

Those words cause you to become still.

"Replacement..."

He just nods.

"I am replaceable. If I died that day, I had already set a plan for someone to take over. When that successor falls, someone else will take his place. I've learned from past mistakes. No bigoted organization will disturb the future of peace and equality."

You understand his drive, but hearing him say that, it made you angry.

"You're wrong, damn what the hell do you mean you're replaceable!! Is that really how you see yourself! What about us huh, your friends! You think if you die we'll just be fine! That's selfish, you're selfish and inconsiderate!!"

"I am just trying to-"

"I DON'T CARE!!"

You're furious, and for a moment he doesn't understand why, but the second he sees the tears, it's clear.

You were scared, terrified.

"I thought that you..I thought.."

You can't finish the sentence and he moves in, pulling you into his arms.

"I'm alive thanks to you. I'm forever in your debt."

You hold on, burying your face in his chest.

"If you ever do that again I'll never forgive you Alexander."

He runs a hand over your back, soothing you.

"I understand. You have my word."

It's a promise he intends to keep.
