It took about a month for you to feel comfortable enough to come back to work. Renard has welcomed you back happily. Hank and Wu have not stopped smiling since you entered the building.

"I made sure and protected your favorite cup."

You laugh when Wu walks out with said cup that has a bow on it like a present.

"I appreciate it."

You take it happily.

It's naive to expect it all to just go back to the way it was, but something as small as the porcelain item made you feel a bit more comforted.

Just like that, you're diving back into work. Hank and Nick had caught a case, so it's no secret that you'll join.

Obviously not before you make a cup of tea.

Stopping by the spice shop later that day was a bit of a precaution.

You kept Rosalee updated on any changes. So far you haven't encountered anything that should cause an alarm. Nick has become sort of like your bodyguard which is a bit cute. After the initial check you intended to leave.

You're not sure why Nick has been lingering for the last ten minutes. Almost like he's stalling. He's also checked his phone three times in the last ten minutes. Rosalee had gone back to doing her inventory when Nick brought up the question.

"How long are you going to avoid Alexander?"

Your jaw tightens.

"I'm not avoiding him. I'm trying to protect him. This is for the best."

"To me it seems like you're running away."

You don't like this at all.

Monroe and Rosalee just watch from their spot. Neither of them intervene.

"I care about him, I don't have a choice."

"You're not acting like you care about him."

You don't get why he's purposely trying to upset you.

"What do you want from me Nick?"

"I want you to admit that you're running away, or at the very least say you don't love him."

"I LOVE HIM!"

They don't expect the yell, or the tears that follow. You're so consumed in your own grief that you don't hear the door behind you open.

"I love Alexander...more than anything is this world but...he won't love me...not like this.."

You feel pathetic, weak, and Nick can understand. More than anything they want to comfort you, but they aren't the ones you need reassurance from.

Not right now.

"I love you (Y/N)."

You turn, startled.

Alexander is standing right there behind you and you barely get the words out before he closes the space and kisses you. Every fight that you'd put up since the change feels meaningless now.

You were so sure that it was over between the both of you. He's holding you so lovingly. You can't believe you ever thought that he wouldn't be able to love you. Right now, everything about the kiss proves the complete opposite.

It feels like it's been years since you both were this close, when in reality it wasn't.

Alexander is the one who pulls away, pressing his forehead to your own with heavy breaths.

"I don't care what you are, all I see is the woman that I love. That is all that matters."

You sob, nodding as you hug him tightly. He welcomes it, because you're finally back into his arms.
