"Another case closed. Good job. It's nice to have a regular murder for once."
Renard dropped the file on his desk. Nick and Hank nodded. You just stood there with folded arms waiting for that pat on the back.
"I think a special thanks is in order."
"Yes, Ms. Jane. Let's see the list of felonies today. You broke into private property, forged the signature of a dead person and threatened a couple with evidence of a crime you weren't a hundred percent they committed. Should I go on?"
Nick and Hank were holding their laughter back.
"Well I mean if you say it like that anything would sound bad."
"Try to avoid committing felonies for future reference."
"You got it boss. I'll be on the couch if you need me." You saluted, walking out of the office with your head held high.
"Keep an eye on her, I have a feeling the next case will be another reckless adventure. If she goes to prison this time I might just let her break out again to avoid the paperwork."
"I still can't believe she broke out of prison with nothing but a muffin." Nick mused.
"I heard she learned that trick from her father." Hank commented.
"Like father, like daughter I guess." Renard spoke.
They all looked over through the glass. When you spot their gazes, you just send a cheerful wave.
Hank snorted.
"Maybe we should just throw her in the slammer now to have a peaceful day." Hank suggested.
"She'll break out in two minutes." Renard nodded at Nick's words.
"We're stuck with her." They spoke in unison.
No use in fighting that fact, they just gave up.

"I heard you made an arrest yesterday."
"I don't want to boast, but my plan was very clever."
Alexander just laughs, because you were definitely boasting. He relaxed against your couch. After getting off his flight, he gave you a call and you excitedly invited him over to your house for a nice dinner. He was starting to feel spoiled.
This was probably the second time you both shared a meal like this. You were seated comfortably with a book in your lap as he enjoyed the ease of not worrying about his duties.
"How do you do it?"
Your eyes drift from your book.
How do I do what?"
"Your little schemes, they are elaborate and clever. How do you do it?"
You shrug, trying to focus on the text.
"I'm not sure. When I read people I guess I just make connections. Reading behavior is a lot about understanding their circumstances as well. Why they would commit a crime and what they would do to ensure that it's never discovered.
I interpret that and find solutions to it. I guess a bit of it is manipulation, after all I have to think the way they do. At that moment I'm in their shoes. Profilers do the same thing."
"I imagine they accomplish that without breaking so many laws."
"It's not as fun though."
You grin and Alexander shares the little mischievous look.
"You're quite the rebel." He chuckles.
"I see myself as an innovative goal oriented third party."
"Quite a creative way of putting it."
"I'm a creative person."
He is inclined to agree.
Sliding your bookmark in place, you cast a look in his direction.
"Hey, can I show you something?"
He looks intrigued.
"Of course."
You smile widely.
"Stay here!" you order as you take off out of the room. Alexander just smiles as you run so excitedly. He can hear your eager steps echo down the hall and then back as your smile seems much brighter. You plop back down on the couch. You're holding out a deck of cards.
"Pick a card, I'm not going to look."
You extend the deck the best you could with both hands as you close your eyes. Alexander nods.
"No peeking." He says.
"I'm not!"
He carefully picks from the deck.
"I have one."
You open your eyes as he holds it in front of his face, not letting you get a glimpse.
"Alright, memorize the card, don't tell me what it is, just slide it back in." You closed your eyes again and he did as instructed. When you feel it, you pull the deck together and shuffle them. That continues for a few seconds and then you stop.
"What was your card?"
"Queen of hearts."
You nod, sliding the first one on the deck. You don't look at it, just show it to him with a cheeky smile.
"Is this your card!"
He plucks it from your hand as you place the deck down. When he shows it to you, he's smiling.
"I believe you're getting rusty, this is the jack of diamonds."
You tilt your head in confusion.
"Really? Hmm, that's weird. I could have sworn that I..wait, maybe you should check your jacket pocket."
His brows furrow, but he reaches in regardless.
"There isn't a card in my.." His words drop when he slides it out of his jacket. He turns it over, staring in awe.
"The queen of hearts..how did you do that?"
You just wear a triumphant smile.
"A magician never reveals her secrets."
You feel satisfied, because he looks completely impressed. Given the world he lives in you know that not much must be surprising for him. Seeing that look of awe on his face was nice.
"If you ever need entertainment I'd be happy to help, for a reasonable price of course." You snicker Alexander is still fidgeting with the card.
Mission accomplished indeed.
