Lin checked the address and pressed the bell, he wiped his hands on his jeans and muttered to himself. "why so nervous?"
Alicia opened the door.
"Hi, Lin?""Yeah, hi! I'm so sorry I'm late. That damn meeting went on far longer than I thought it would."
"Hey don't worry, when I got your message I managed to get some more schoolwork marked, so it wasn't time wasted. Come in!
Be careful where you're standing though. The hook has fallen out of the wall and I can't seem to find it."Lin bent down and looked round. "Got it, it's rolled right into the corner."
Alicia smiled. "Brilliant, thank you!"
"Would you like me to put it back up?"
"What now? Can you? That would be great, if you think you can."
"Hey I might be a theater dude but I'm not too bad at household jobs."
"I'll get a hammer."
Lin looked round the room as she walked away, taking in the bright lights and contrasting colours in the kitchen area and living room.
He walked over, put his phone down on the counter and noticed small braille labels attached to various plugs and drawers. All cables neatly hooked together.
"You've got a nice place" he shouted into the room.Alicia appeared with a hammer "Thanks, I mean, it's small but I like it. Here.."
Lin took the hammer from her and started to knock the hook into the wall.
The room suddenly plunged into darkness."Crap"
Alicia frowned. "Has something happened? It seems to have suddenly gone dark?"
Lin laughed. "Just when I could do without you being able to tell...I think I've hit a cable. All the lights have blown."
"Oopsy! Welcome to my world."
"I'm so sorry, I'll have a look at the fuse box."
"Hey, these things happen,
It's in the small cupboard to the left of the sink."Lin felt in his pocket to get his phone for a torch then realised it wasn't there. He took a few steps forward.
"Holy fuck! Shit! Just walked into the table."Alicia giggled. "It's usually people forgetting to push chairs in that are my bug bear. Haven't you got a torch on your phone?"
"That's what I'm trying to get to.
My phone is in the kitchen."Alicia laughed out loud.
"Here take my arm."
She hooked Lin's arm over hers and navigated him to the area.
"This is new! I've never had to help a sighted person before!"He chuckled as she stopped and placed his hands on the counter.
"Ok, don't sweep your hands over the counter top or you could end up pushing your phone onto the floor.
Feel for it by raising your hands and putting them down.""Ok, got it!" He switched on the torch and found the fuse box, isolating the entry light the room came bright again.
"I'll get an electrician out tomorrow to fix that for you. I'm so sorry, not a good thing to happen on a first date. I mean, first proper meeting."She laughed. "At least it will be memorable! Don't worry about an electrician, my next door neighbour Simon will sort it."
"Yep, I will be going over this and cringing inside for the next week at least."
"You worry a lot about what people think don't you?"
Lin pondered the question and nodded slowly. "Yeah, I guess. I don't like to let people down, people who mean a lot to me anyway."
Alicia tilted her head and smiled at him.
"Friends I mean. I don't like to let friends down."
