He woke early and went for a run, with far too much adrenaline pumping through his body he ran through the park hard before heading home after an hour.
Picking up a towel he dried the sweat off his face as he turned the shower on, leaving his clothes in a heap on the bathroom floor.
He picked up his phone to call Alicia.
The line was dead.
"What the hell?!"
He threw it onto the bed and got into the warm water, letting it run over his aching muscles.
"She must have a problem with her phone I'll go over."
He showered quickly and dressed.
Grabbing his laptop he ran out of the apartment, his hair still dripping down his back.

He jumped on the train and sat down smiling to himself.
God his friends were amazing. Not one had hesitated to offer help.
"Life is good! So grateful."
Getting to her apartment he checked his hair in the reflection of the door, and shook his head as he realised what he was doing, he heard the bell ring and waited. No answer.
"Crap. Maybe she's out." He frowned looking at his watch. It was only just past 8.30, she wasn't at work today. Maybe she was still asleep.
He rang the bell again and was about to turn and go when he heard footsteps.
He smiled as she opened the door
"Hey! G'morning! Sorry it's early but I couldn't wait to tell you how I've got.... Alicia! What the hell happened?!"
Lin looked at her face, one eye black, and a split lip. Still looking like she was in last night's clothes.

"It's fine, I just fell."

"JESUS! Are you ok?"

She walked away from him into the kitchen. "Yeah fine."

"You don't look fine. Are you sure?"

"I SAID IM FINE."

Lin raised his eyebrows and bit his lip.

Alicia sighed. "I'm sorry. I shouldn't have shouted."

"It's ok."
He watched her reach up to put some plates away and frowned as he saw her put her hand on her side and wince.
He walked towards her and gently put his hand on her shoulder.
"Lis, c'mon, let me take a look at that. You're in pain. Please."

"I've just banged it.."

"Then you won't mind me taking a look to shut me up will you? Gonna keep asking so you may as well just put my mind at rest and show me now."

"God you're persistent ..."

"When I'm worried about my friend? Yes I'm an irritating Motherfucker. Not apologising for it."

She sighed quietly and closed the cupboard door.
"Honestly it's just a bruise ..."

"So show me, shut me up."

She turned towards him and slowly pulled her top up revealing dark purple marks and scratches all round her ribs.
Lin gasped. "Shit!"
He gently lifted her shirt up her back.
"Lis, you're covered. Ok. Wanna tell me the truth? No way you've managed to fall and bruise all your ribs and your back as well."

"I kind of rolled when I fell."

Lin looked at her silently and shut his eyes tightly not wanting to ask the question.
"Lis, there are hand marks.... Has someone hurt you? Have you been...." He couldn't get the words out and stood breathing slowly to stop his spinning mind.

She looked at the floor.
"I was mugged. That's all, I tried to fight back but there were two of them. I know I should've just let them take my damn bag and phone in the first place but I was so angry.
They dragged me down an alley, pushed me down and threw my cane away somewhere. I couldn't find it.
Some bruises are from that and some are from me not being able to find my way home."

"Fuck."
He frowned.
"You sure they didn't do anything else?"

She nodded.

"You called the cops?"
