𝐍𝐄𝐒𝐒𝐀 𝐒𝐀𝐓 𝐁𝐄𝐒𝐈𝐃𝐄 Zach and Clay at the arcade, nervously fidgeting as she immersed into an awkward conversation with Peter, Alex's older brother. The last time she had seen him was in the hospital the day Alex had been admitted.
"So, tell me the truth." Peter said. "How's he doing?"
"He's good, Peter." Nessa answered for everyone.
"Yeah." Zach agreed with her. "His balance is getting better and so is his strength."
"Zach and I have been helping him with PT." Nessa said, gesturing to her brother. "Zach more than me."
"He's still working on his memory." Clay interjected.
"But he's doing great." Nessa interrupted him. "I'm really proud of him."
"Turns out you only need one hand to whoop your old-man at skeeball." Deputy Standall said as he threw a stuffed bear onto the table, and Alex nodded proudly as he walked up to the table, taking a seat next to his girlfriend. Alex handed her the bear, smiling sheepishly at her.
"I won it for you." Alex said, pressing a kiss to her forehead. Nessa grabbed it and hugged it, already imagining the perfect place for it on her bed.
"Thank you, baby." she said, and Alex nodded.
"You should have challenged me at Dance Dance Revolution, Dad." Alex joked.
"Don't tempt Nessa." Zach warned him. "She kicks my ass every time."
Nessa nodded proudly with a smile on her face. "I do."
Mrs. Standall came to the table, her hands full with plates of food. "Alright, wings." she announced as she set them down, and Nessa immediately grabbed a plate. She was starving.
"Burgers will come up when they're ready." she said as she sat down next to her son. Everyone began eating when Jessica walked in, a present in her hand.
"Jess!" Nessa said from her seat, and Jessica smiled as she walked over to the group. Alex got up to greet her and Nessa followed, noting the attempt from Peter to stop him.
"I just think it's complicated." Alex said as the group laughed. Nessa was laid back onto him, his arm wrapped around her neck lazily.
"See, the thing is to be in the group, but not about the group. You know what I mean?" Jeff spoke as he laid back into Leah's arms, his smile wide.
"No." Sheri said through a giggle. "What do you mean?"
"Alright, take Alex." Jeff said, preparing to go on a tangent to prove his point. "You're friends with Justin Foley."
"Which is like, whatever." Hannah said, and everyone began laughing, even Nessa.
"And he says you're a good guy." Jeff said, his voice high from trying not to burst into a fit of laughter in the middle of his thoughts. "He doesn't say that about most people."
