I kissed her

I kissed her.

Then I acted like a complete dick right after.

One step forward, two steps back and it's always because I'm a fucking dickhead.

Things were going pretty well. We even became friends.

The look of hurt and confusion that was on her face was permanently imprinted in my mind.

"What the fuck is that?" Gio spat out, eyeing the book on my table, successfully distracting me from the thoughts of my wife.

The bright pink book looks so off putting on my black table alongside the black folders.

"I could say the same to you," I reply, my eyes darting to the blue book in his hands. It even has a furry bookmark.

"It's called a novel." he replies, lifting his chin up, proud of himself. "It's so fun."

"Could say the same." I smile, dropping my gaze back to the files on my desk. "So what happened while I was gone."

"Can you believe I bumped into Zahra at a bar? Damn it was crazy, then she introduced me to reading. Giving me the crap that it helps in escaping reality but-"

"As much as I want to hear about the introduction of your love story," I interrupt his rambling, rubbing my temple. "I asked about work."

He clears his throat, rubbing the back of his neck suddenly embarrassed. "Sorry, I got carried away."

"Understandable."

"We moved higher up the chart," he starts, suddenly becoming serious. "Profit is doubling."

"Where are we at?"

"Third."

I nod, proud of myself. In the chain of all the companies in my line business, I ranked third. All within a year of being COO.

"Blackwell's still the first?" I ask, curious.

"Yes." Gio replies, matching my gaze.

Blackwell Group have held the number one spot for years, being the most successful. I'm not jealous, just really, really impressed.

"Do you have information about the Ández?" I drop my gaze to the same file that has been sitting in front of me for about an hour now.

"Should I?"

"Yes," I glance at him, seeing the knowing look on his face. "Add that to the monthly review."

"How are things with..." he drawls out, pointing to the book. "You know who."

"Isabella?" I echo and he nods. "Good."

"Your expression states otherwise." he points out, cocking his head sideways.

"It's complicated okay?"

"If you have any questions, you can ask either me or Tati." he suggests, putting his hand in one of his pockets with the book in his second hand.
