"Why didn't you tell me, Char?" Bonnie whispered, staring up at the ceiling, playing with the rings she kept on her fingers. "I thought we were friends."
Charlie turned her head to look at the younger girl beside her, a sad and betrayed gaze on Bonnie's face. "You know we are, Bon."
"Then why didn't you say anything? You've known for years!" She tried not to snap, but as she sat up, she couldn't help it. She had only just come to terms with the fact that she was a witch, that she had magic, but now she knew that Charlie had known about this throughout their entire friendship. "Friends don't lie to each other like this, Charlie! I mean, we used to tell each other everything."
Charlie watched as Bonnie jumped to her feet, facing her and while she was in her own room, the blonde felt like turning and running away, escaping the hostile stare that the Bennett was facing her with. It wasn't like they had never fought before, but it wasn't like this. Last week Bonnie found out about her family, about her bloodline and she was gradually accepting the fact that Elena wasn't the only one tied to the supernatural world. The mess that came with Stefan coming to town, and Damon following after him, was building but Bonnie had been sure that the one thing she could count on was Charlie. Elena had lied to her, for her apparent protection, and now she felt even more pained by Charlie's betrayal.
She knew their age gap must explain Charlie's protectiveness, but it didn't change the fact that they were friends. Bonnie always knew there was something amiss about the older girl, as she always seemed to know something that Bonnie didn't but after her grandmother told her the truth about witchcraft and the magic running through her veins. For weeks, she had been struggling with the fact that she was different, watching candles light up on their own and she had blown more than one thing up. Vampires were real (her best friend was dating one!) and Bonnie's ancestors were involved in their whole messed up history. She hadn't known about this until recently and it wasn't until she realized that Charlie was technically a Salvatore that she started putting the pieces. Damon was the one that opened his mouth about her being a witch.
"You've been told about magic by your Grams," Charlie moved until she was sitting on the edge of her bed, sighing as she saw the seventeen year old's face crumble. She was trying to come to terms with everything she now knew. Stefan and Damon were vampires, Elena had an identical ancestor that they had both been involved with, the Bennetts were witches and there was a tomb of desiccated vampires within their city. "You never believed her."
"She never showed me it, though!" She cried out and some of Charlie's books flew off their shelves. Bonnie groaned. "See! If I had known this-"
"Bon, Lily and I have been dealing with this since, well, forever." She found she had more patience for Bonnie's anger than she thought she would. When the girl came storming upstairs without a word, she just knew what was coming. Elena had called and given her a warning as she revealed that Damon had opened his mouth before Charlie had been ready for it. Bonnie knew Charlie was involved, but she never knew how much, especially considering the blonde tried her best not to get mixed up in all the dangerous crap that happened around them. "Your dad wanted you to be normal and you did have a normal life. Until now. Shit happens but you're a strong, capable witch and you just have to know what to do with what you have."
"But I could've been better and more prepared if I had known." She whispered, her voice breaking. "Charlie, I just always thought we were family. Elena and Caroline...they're my best friends, but you're my sister. You're the one I told when I got my first crush, the one that told me about sex and periods because god forbid my grams explaining it to me without me dying of embarrassment. You're the one I went to when I needed someone but you weren't here this time because....because I didn't realize how much we actually had in common."
