"What do you mean, Kol's dead?"

"He was staked by Jeremy and Lily saw the whole thing."

"How?! Tell me everything."

"I will, but...but you have to come back, Charlie. I don't know what I'm supposed to do."

Her hand flew to her mouth, in disbelief over hearing that apparently, her sister had decided to live a whole new life in her absence. "Albus, I'm coming home."

While she rushed around her temporary room in Ryan's apartment, she kept her phone on speaker so Albus could explain everything he knew about Lily's relationship with Kol, and how it ended tragically a few hours earlier at the hands of Jeremy and Elena. Charlie had frozen as she was zipping up her suitcase, because she couldn't believe how much she had missed while Lily had been back in Mystic Falls. She should've known that Lily was still talking to Kol, but to find out that they were actually together? She had been dating her soulmate for who knows how long and now he was dead. Albus explained that she had been helping the Original to try and kill Jeremy in order to stop the others from finding Silas and the cure, a mission that Charlie hadn't known she had involved herself in. She never would have pictured her sister as someone that would go around hurting others because of the word of her boyfriend.

She wanted to feel enraged, to feel betrayed that her sister would keep such a big secret, but it wasn't anger that she felt. It was sadness, because Lily had fallen in love again and hadn't felt like she could tell her, and she knew why. Even if she had been dating someone else, Charlie knew she might still not have told her, remembering how she had been to Lily when she had started sleeping with Louis. It made her hate herself, for letting that distance be put between herself and the most important person to her. She never would have approved of Lily being with Kol, as him convincing her to kill Jeremy was evidence enough, but she still would have wanted to know what was happening to her. She would have wanted to be the person Lily confided in, and she hated herself for not being there, even if she would have gone straight home to Mystic Falls if she had known that Lily was doing what she had been doing. Albus told her that he only recently found out about the development of the relationship, otherwise he would have told her sooner. Charlie didn't blame him, but she was peeved at herself for assuming he could have kept an eye on her. She should have known better. Lily was smart; she knew how to pull the wool over someone's eyes.

Charlie hung up the phone after Albus told her that he had spoken to Drew, who had stayed behind in Mystic Falls while Rebekah had gone to this island. She was confused, having been kept out of the loop with a lot of things, including the new relationship between her former best friend and Rebekah, but that was the last thing on her mind. She kept thinking about Bonnie and what had happened to her via Shane and the black magic for her to think that trapping Lily in the Gilbert living room with Klaus of all people was a good idea, that doing something like that to the girl she once called a sister to her. She hated her for that, more than before, as it felt like the people she once loved as family just kept hurting her over and over and over again. She didn't know the whole story but she understood why Elena and Jeremy would feel the need to kill Kol to get him away from them, but they had known Lily their whole lives. She hated them all, for putting her little sister through what she has. She just hadn't realized how far they were willing to go to such great lengths to find this cure.

"Where are you going?" She had just exited the bedroom, stepping into the living space, when Ryan stepped out of his own room. His hair was sticking in every direction, having been asleep since neither of them had slept the night before. Ryan had been in the middle of a nap. "Are you going back to Mystic Falls?"
