Drew Harper was nervous.
He shouldn't be, but here he was, sitting on the edge of his girlfriend's bed, wondering if he should even be here.
It wasn't as if he was invited, even if it had been implied. Drew had all but living with her since they started dating, with him occasionally going home to check on his siblings. He had been living with Klaus beforehand, but that was then and this was now. He had wanted to spend as much time with Rebekah as he could, leaving some of his clothes in her spacious wardrobe and he loved her manor, but he still sometimes felt out of place. He wore the best clothes, he paid a hundred dollars on his haircut and he felt stronger now than he ever had, yet he still felt like an impostor. He grew up looking for bargains and fishing for coupons with Maggie, yet here he was, a vampire, sitting in his girlfriend's expensive home, wondering if he would ever feel like he belonged. He must do. He loved her, she loved him, so surely sooner or later he'd stop feeling like she was so much better than he was. It didn't help that he knew she was, better than him that is.
That was when she came home. He could hear her heels on the hardwood floor on the stairs.
"Drew!" Rebekah eased his fears when she came into her bedroom and her entire face lit up at the sight of him. "You disappeared from the party!"
He forced a smile. "I wasn't feeling it."
"What's wrong?" She seemed a little too sweet, stepping forward while kicking off her expensive heels, looping her arms around his neck. "You've been acting weird."
He wanted to insist that he was fine, that there weren't anything wrong, but Rebekah knew him well enough to know when he was lying out of his ass. "I guess I wanted to know exactly what happened."
"With what?"
"With the cave, with the cure." He wrapped his arms around her hips, pulling her closer to him. "I think we should talk about it."
Rebekah frowned, eyeing him. "What is there to talk about? I didn't get the cure, did I? But it's out there, with that stupid bitch Katherine. We'll find it, and if I get to rip her head off her shoulders, well that's just a plus, now isn't it?"
Drew sighed, stroking his thumb over the inch of skin revealed between her top and jeans from where she was straddling his lap. "Bekah, you know I love you."
"And I love you-"
"But that isn't enough, is it?" He interrupted, seeing her confusion, but tightened her hold when she went to pull away. "I don't want to break up. I want to keep you for as long as I can, but when you take the cure, what is going to happen to us?"
Rebekah still slid off his lap, but remained next to him, one arm resting over his broad shoulders. "I don't know." She whispered, not willing to admit that she hadn't thought about that. Even when she found out there was only one cure, she had thought only about making sure that she got it, not about her very immortal boyfriend. "What do you want?"
"I want you."
"Andy," it wasn't often she spoke that name, but she said it now with hesitance. "I can't give up on the cure."
"I'm not asking you to." He shook his head. "I could see it on your face, earlier, during the party."
"I've wanted to be human for so long," she sighed. "You're the only one that seems to understand that."
Parties were so not his thing anymore. Though he supposed they never were.
Damon had been a pain in their asses all day, with Drew all but trailing after them as they tried to find the vampire that Klaus almost killed, the vampire that almost killed that girl Hayley who was friends with Katherine. All roads lead back to the doppelganger after all. Drew had never liked Damon, and today didn't change that fact. However, they ended up returning to the Salvatore Boarding House to find that Elena was throwing a party, with underage drinking and dancing with too much touching. Damon tried convincing Rebekah that of course she shouldn't want the cure, not just because of how shitty humans had it, but also because it wasn't as if her current boyfriend could father her wanted children, now was it? Drew hadn't been able to stop thinking about it; he had managed to slip away shortly after. He could've stuck around, he could've tried to help his girlfriend, but the longer he stayed around Damon Salvatore, the more emotionally exhausted he felt. Damon had always treated him like crap, even before he started pursuing Charlie, and that hadn't changed. He threw comments at him all day, making him wonder why Rebekah had felt like they needed him. It seemed like he was the key to getting to Katherine and he didn't wanna be anywhere near her.
