A new beginning

Somewhere in the future....

It's early in the morning, when the sun's rays come through my window, the breeze and that smell of sea salt, the song of the waves and its creatures.

My beach cabin has been one of the best investments my friends and I have ever made, the peace I feel on my small island is unique. But there were dark moments in my life, before I felt the peace I feel today. Everything was gray, I didn't understand why my parents had abandoned me in the Cruz orphanage, there I discovered challenges, insecurities, but also friendship and loyalty, but above all love. But I've never stopped being curious why, and the fact that my uncle Santos, has always reached out to the orphanage to hear from me and send them funds so they can continue to take care of me, makes me even more curious. In the end they never allowed any family to adopt me, my friends, Gina and Chad found families that love them, even when I came of age, Gina's adoptive parents opened the doors of their home to me and I finally felt part of a family, as I have always seen Gina as a sister. That's when I felt like my life really started the way it was meant to be.

At 24 I graduated from the wildlife institute and later got a job at the Aquarium and Sea Creature Sanctuary it's been a year. I love the sea and animals, I finally felt truly happy.

I live with Gina and two friends we met in college two years ago, Kauru and Gema. Kauru is the adventurous and funny one, always aware of every product that is natural and not tested on animals, she is basically the one who helps us to be healthy and at peace with the environment, her wild and orange hair, her spirit is free and unstoppable.

And then there's Gema, who reminds us that life is hard but never impossible to survive, she's the one who keeps the fashion going among all of us, from her curly brown hair to her feet, she's always radiant and beautiful, she's the human version of Venus, at least that's what her boyfriend Xion says. Both are substitute teachers in college and will soon be certified teachers.

Gina on the other hand is an excellent nurse, no one is as sweet and kind as my dear Gina, well, if they don't bring out her grumpy side of course.

I got out of bed feeling positive, walked over to my mirror near my dresser, right to the left side of my bed, looked at myself and said, {be positive, you are a warrior, smart, today we can and will achieve our goals} there it was, porcelain skin, tired brown eyes, long hair very tangled, ready to start my day. I looked out the window that was next to my dresser and bed, I saw how the weather was, very cloudy and gray, it was definitely one of those rainy days where I would rather be at home with a good book.

I looked at the cabin next door, where three sisters, who are also our friends, live. The oldest, Trish, is about 35 years old, dark-skinned, the best in her academy and university in criminal justice. Then there are her two younger sisters, twins, 22 years old. Ashley and Trinash, they change their hair color to have something that sets them apart. Ashley paints it light blue, Trinash lavender. They are very friendly, but they are completely different in personality, models for a famous magazine on the island and they do very well there.

We met at a book fair. There we also found out that they bought a cabin in front of the sea, precisely the one next to ours.

I have an excellent life, it is not perfect, but I am perfectly happy. My work is about an 8-minute walk from my cabin. After my morning routine, I walk along the beach to the aquarium, where I work, it's an amazing place. Today I'm a few minutes late, it's the first time it's happened to me, but I haven't been able to sleep very well since I have those strange dreams about witches and dragons. I love to read fantasy and my favorite place in my home is our mini library, where we spend hours with hot chocolate and a good book. But dreaming about it, I don't know, lately I haven't been feeling well. I finished preparing and left in a hurry to work. I hope it doesn't rain because I don't remember where I left my umbrella.
