"She's been out cold for a little while," A faint voice could be heard as Vena began to wake, eyelids fluttering ever so slightly.

One blue eyeball cracked open, flinching ever so slightly at the harsh light, blinking a few more times before both opened fully.

"Hey youuuu," A familiar voice reached her ears, heart beat accelerating slightly as she realized who it belonged to.

The lights dimmed, replaced by a subtle string of colored lights that lined the tops of the walls, now making it much easier for Vena to see.

"How are you feeling?"

Vena slowly pulled herself up into a sitting position, hands reaching up to gently rub at her eyes and yawn.

"I'm okay," Vena grumbled tiredly, just thankful that Xiao was safe.

"What happened? Where's Maya?"

Xiao's expression fell slightly, his eyes dropping to his hands as he tried to figure out what to say.

He was seated on the floor next to her, his gaze finally raising to meet the other's eyes as silence fell.

A pair of bright unfamiliar purple one's met Vena's, the look alone making her feel a tad uncomfortable in her own skin.

"Not six feet under where she should be." Scara was the first to speak, his voice clearly sharp and irritated as he directed his attention to Xiao.

"Scara," Mona chastised the man, giving him a smack on the shoulder as she pouted.

"What did you want me to do? Murder her in cold blood? She refused to fight me because she just wants Vena dead. I did the next best thing." Xiao remained calm as usual, the two men simply staring each other down.

"If she would have laid even a single finger on Mona, she'd be buried in an unmarked grave."

An odd feeling clouded Vena's mind at that, uncertainty swelling like a poison in her brain. Was Scara right? Was Xiao wrong for not killing Maya..?

"Scara, that isn't fair. You can't compare Xiao to yourself, you're a lot more murderous and unhinged. Plus, they have history. You've hated her guts since the day you met her." Mona tried to mediate and play devil's advocate, clearly a little nervous and uneasy at the current situation.

Is that history the reason he didn't finish her off?

Doubt was a plague, spreading like wildfire as the conversation continued. Vena could only manage to keep her eyes glued on the floor, negative thoughts swirling in her mind uncontrollably now.

Did she even want Maya dead to begin with? Could she live with herself knowing that Xiao took Maya's life just to protect her? Even if she was in the wrong, it felt taboo. Every life seemed precious, but what other options remained in a world like theirs?

Right and wrong weren't just black and white, the grey area was large. The rules in the world of fallen angels and hybrids seemed different than the usual laws of simple humanity. That by itself was a hard pill to swallow.

"I've hated her since the day I met her because I know what she is- a lying, manipulative, psychotic bitch. Now she's alive and well, out there roaming the streets, and it's going to end up in Vena being dead. That girl's blood is on your hands, Xiao."

"Enough!" Finally, the unknown figure had pushed herself off the wall, coming to stand in the middle of the room, being sure all eyes were on her.

"What's done is done, and you two arguing about it is only giving me a migraine. Either start talking about our next game plan or shut up." The woman's voice was loud, almost demanding of respect and full of authority.
