"Oh god, don't look now." Oh, the panic those words evoked.
As subtly as possible, Vena cast her gaze up through her eyelashes, looking toward the direction Rae had gestured with a nod of her head.
Oh Jesus Christ.
"Hey, pig."
"Sup, plastic."
Vena couldn't help but snort a laugh through her nose at her best friend's insult.
Maddie Shaffer, cheerleader, typical snobby, blonde-haired, fake looking bitch.
Honestly, Vena had forgotten what even started their feud, but most days it was just the usual insults back and forth until someone walked off or rude gestures from across the room.
"Something funny, emo girl?" Maddie changed her target, but as usual, Vena didn't bite.
She simply continued on her paper with a wide smirk across her lips, giving a raise of her eyebrows as the girl spoke.
Maddie rolled her eyes at this and made a 'tsk' noise, but turned away to leave regardless.
"See, Rae? If you ignore it, it goes away." Vena couldn't contain the smile on her face, amused not even covering the emotion she was feeling at the moment.
Petty and childish highschool squabbles always found a way to entertain Vena.
Rae let out an obnoxious laugh at that, realizing the thing the girl had said during their prior altercation with Maddie had indeed been correct.
"Oh yeah, soooooooo,"
Vena didn't like that tone of voice, sighing as she neatly placed her pen down to divert her full attention to the girl before her, knowing what that tone of voice usually meant.
"Wanna go to that boardwalk I was telling you about this weekend?" Rae asked sheepishly, a pleading look on her face as she clasped her hands together as if to pray.
"Okay, so what's the part you're conveniently leaving out because you know I'll say no?" Vena leaned back in her chair, arms crossed across her chest with one eyebrow raised.
"Um, I may have invited Childe and Nate-"
"Hard pass." Vena cut her off, face falling flat as she dropped her arms, picked up her pen and began writing her paper again.
"V! PLEEEEEEASE, I can't go with two guys alone, my parents will kill me! Plus I've been wanting you to go with me! PLEASEEEEEE, I'll owe you one!" Rae begged, her chin now planted on the table in front of her as if to display submission, almost practically on her knees.
"Why did you invite them in the first place?" Vena questioned, eyeing her best friend with a skeptical glance, pausing her writing one last time.
"I- uh..."
"You think Childe's cute, don't you."
Rae almost choked, making a short strangled sound as she let out a cough, clearly caught off guard by Vena's bold assumption and the bluntness of the question being spoken more as a statement.
"I DO NOT- okay maybe." Rae quickly gave in the desire to fight back, subsequently reverting back to begging as her hands clasped again, face back down on the table.
"PLEASEEEEEEE, don't make me get on my knees. You know I will." Rae raised her head, only taking a brief pause before pushing her chair back and making a move that looked like she was about to get on her knees before Vena practically hissed at her.
"Okay okay, knock it off- people are staring at us, you idiot." The purple haired girl couldn't help but giggle, giving her best friend's arm a playful smack once she'd gotten back seated correctly in her chair.
