Chapter 1
Anastasia POV
“Hurry up Anastasia! We’re going to be late for school!” my adoptive brother, Adrian shouted up from the living room.
Being a foster child wasn’t fun at all. I never stayed in the same place for more than two or three months because no one liked the way you looked or dressed. That lasted from when I was a year old to just last week. I’m turning 18 in a few months. I’m a senior but I’m the youngest. My birthday is the last day of December. Maybe this year, I’ll actually get to celebrate it.
Today is my first day of school and I’ll admit I’m nervous. One last look in the mirror shall do it. I have naturally curly pale brown hair with natural dark high lights, light blue eyes and full pink lips. I was wearing a pair of black skinny jeans, red and black boots, and a red shirt that has a design of black and white paint thrown onto it. I had light makeup one, just brown eye shadow, eye liner and some mascara. I look good.
“C-Coming down now,” I shouted back to Adrian as I grabbed my bag, my books and my glasses.
I’m a bit of a nerd and I’m very shy. I don’t like talking to anyone, actually. If I do, then it’s just a few words here and there.
I hit the last step when I saw Adrian out of the window leaning against his car. He had dark hair that was spiked, a light blue dress shirt rolled up at the sleeves, black jeans and high top blue sneakers. He had his phone out, probably texting his friends that I have seen come over to the house everyday for the past week.
When I shut the door behind me he looked up and gave me a small smile. He put his phone away and gestured me with his hand to get in. When I saw his car I hesitated for a second, he has a sports car that I have seen him drive very fast in. Gathering up the little bit of courage that I have, I got into his car and sat on the leather seat.
I was shaking in my seat, not because I was cold or anything but because of the nerves I had.
“Don’t worry, Anastasia, you’ll be fine. I’ll be there and if we don’t have any classes together, my friends will be there for you. I’ve been with these people all my life, they aren’t that bad,” Adrian said, trying to encourage me.
I gave him a small smile and turned to look out the window. He has gotten used to the fact that I rarely talk. I think in the past week and a half, I have only spoken to him around four times—today counting as the fourth.
As I was looking out the window, I could see a crowd of people come near the car. They surrounded it. I jumped back and grabbed the bottom of the seat. I could feel my knuckles losing oxygen because of my tight grip. He looked at my scared expression and let out a small chuckle.
“Don’t worry, they aren’t going to eat you or anything. They just want my attention. If you don’t like that I’ll tell them to leave, would you like it if I did that?” he asked looking at me.
I nodded my head.
He let out a sigh and opened the door. I heard squealing and everyone calling out his name. I heard him say something’s to them, but I couldn’t understand it clearly. I heard people chattering and walking away. Adrian popped his head back inside and told me it was okay to come out. I did as he said and got out of the car.
I looked at the school, it was huge! Students were everywhere. I felt myself begin to hyperventilate but I calmed myself and turned to Adrian and his friends.
I gave a shy smile and said, “T-t-thank you.”
I looked to see his friends with their mouths wide open. They have never heard me talk before. I saw Adrian give a small nod and I started to walk towards the building. I looked into my binder and grabbed my schedule that I received the day before. I saw that my first class was English.
