Will:-"My boyfriend was already forgiven."
I slowly wrapped my arms around his waist, hiding my head in his chest. Feeling his hands around me and his chin resting on my head, he pulled me closer. I could sense his warmth, smell his familiar perfume. Closing my eyes, I mumbled, "I missed you."
He moved his chin and rested his cheek on my head. "Me too," he said softly.
We stayed like this for a minute, just taking in our embrace, feeling the comfort and security we both desperately needed. It felt like a balm to the emotional wounds we had both been carrying, a silent reassurance that we were still here for each other.
Then he gently broke the hug and kept one hand on my shoulder in a side hug. "Let's go in," he said, guiding me to his room and closing the door behind us. I finally broke the hug and stood in front of him, just looking at him. He was wearing his black T-shirt and some grey shorts, but there was something different about him.
As I stared at his face, I realized what it was—his hair. It was shorter, different, his curls were no longer curls. My mouth slightly opened in surprise. I raised my hand to his hair, touching it gently. "Your hair...," I managed to say, my voice trailing off.
(Mike's hair now)Mike looked shy and started rubbing his neck. "Is it that bad?" he asked, a hint of uncertainty in his voice.
"No, no, it's nice. Really nice," I said, smiling at him, my hand still on his hair. "But your curls..." I took my hand off his hair and looked down. "Why?"
He sighed softly. "I just got bored of my old hair."
I looked at him, trying to understand. Deep down, I felt he cut it because he was trying to escape his past, perhaps trying to show me that he had changed. Even though I knew he wasn't what Jane had made him out to be, my doubts had made him feel like he had to prove himself.
"Mike, you don't have to change for me," I said, meeting his eyes. "I love you just the way you are."
His eyes widened in surprise, his expression shifting from confusion to realization. "What did you say?" he asked, his voice barely above a whisper.
"I said you don't have to change for me!" I repeated, a bit confused myself.
He shook his head and looked into my eyes again. "After that!"
Realization hit me like a ton of bricks. My face turned beet red as the words I had just uttered echoed in my mind. I tried my best to divert the conversation, stumbling over my words in a desperate attempt to change the subject. "I mean, you know, it's not like I don't like your hair or anything. I just think that, well, maybe we should... um..."
