"Rolling down the highway," Kyle sang as he drove down the highway in the pitch black darkness. He loved driving at night because he felt like there was nothing but him and the road. He felt in his own little world, so he sang "With the wind at my back and nothing beside me."
Suddenly a harsh white light streaked across the sky. Before Kyle could even wonder what it was there was a huge explosion just next to the van causing him to swerve off the road. "What the hell was that?" Kyle said to no one in particular.
"Kyle! what the heck is going on up here?" said Max as he burst through the curtains with the rest of the gang close behind.
"I don't know just look" said Kyle gesturing to a giant fire where the explosion had just been.
"What. How did that start?" asked Max.
"Something streaked across the sky and then there was a huge explosion!"
"Do you think it could be..." Isabel started, but she couldn't even finish the thought. What had they thought? That they could just live in the van never seeing another alien or secret agent again? They were kidding themselves, she thought.
Kyle knew what she meant. "I don't know, what should we do Max?"
"Well, we have to find out what it is" said Max assuming the role of leader by force of habit.
"Let's go then" said Michael growing impatient.
. . .
As they approached the fire Max put up his hand and the flames were reduced to small tendrils of smoke. Now that the fire was out they could clearly see what had once lay beneath the flames. It was a small shiny black box that was perfectly intact.
"Well," said Michael "can we open it?"
"Michael the box just fell from outer space," said Maria "you can't just open it" At that very second the box's lid flipped open on it's own.
"The box begs to differ" said Michael.
