It is widely acknowledged that by 126 AC, House Targaryen had amassed the largest amount of dragons of the time. Despite the recent loss of Lady Laena and the schemes of traitors, dragons were thriving and House Targaryen boasted several dragon riders.

"What is flying like?" the then dragon less Lady Rhaena was heard to ask her cousin, Valaena. "Exhilarating." the young princess answered. "Just wait until you get your dragon." "My egg didn't hatch." Rhaena was said to have replied sadly. "Don't worry." Lucerys said. "That just means the right dragon is already alive. You just have to find them."

Thus, it was established that while cradle egg hatchings were becoming more common, just because a Targaryen's egg did not hatch did not mean they were a lesser Targaryen. Their dragon was alive, and waiting for their future rider to find them.

Queen Aelinor and King Jacaerys would continue the Targaryen golden age, with more dragons hatching and more dragonriders joining the ranks of the Targaryens. By the start of the second century of House Targaryen, it had amassed more than two dozen dragons, living either on the volanco Dragonmont of Dragonstone or in the Dragonpit in King's Landing.
