POV - April

Y'know, April thought making normal friends would be the hardest challenge she set for herself this year, considering the current trajectory of her life. Having met talking turtle tots when she was just a young child and then being rocketed into a life of non stop chaos coupled with her notorious bad luck? Of course she loves the guys with all her heart! But with them being turtle mutants there's only so far she can live a normal life with them.

She'll never be able to introduce other people to them, she has to constantly keep a secret, and she has to make sure no one finds out about their existence by covering her own tracks some days. Simple, right? If only it were that easy.

Thankfully, two polar opposite siblings seemed to turn that around in an instant. At first, April's skepticism was justified. Their home life, while talked about with an air of casualness, seemed less than ideal and more often than not probably isolated the poor siblings from the world. She'd leave home as soon as possible as well. Though it did mean they lacked any reference for normalcy too, which she'd noticed in their odd behavior and social skills. They seemed dirty, unorganized, lost even. But that never stopped her from trying to make friends before!.

Befriending Lita and Jennika was probably one of the best decisions she had made considering their ever going adventures. Both of them had their ups and downs trying to adjust to this new city life, but after about a month of their stay they seemed to be getting the hang of it. It helped that they shared similar personalities and quirks with a few hard headed turtles.

Sure, April had almost let it slip a few times about her relationship with strange bipedal turtle boys but thankfully she had caught herself just in time. Neither human seemed unfazed by her strange reactions either so that was a good sign.

Nothing could possibly ruin this normal life for her.

Tonight, she wanted to try something fun with their little trio of pals. According to the vague stories of their childhood, neither of them had ever experienced a genuine, fun and connective girl's sleepover. It was honestly mind boggling news to April. I mean, never experienced a sleepover before? Who were their parents? And when can she beat them tf up.

April busied herself in front of the microwave as the popcorn cooked inside.

Jennika not having one kind of made sense. She always gave off some kind of punk metalhead vibe that might've scared away a lot of younger children. But Lita? That set off all kinds of strange alarm in her head. The girl was
practically a Pinkie Pie, with her boundless energy and charismatic suave that April witnessed on more than one occasion.

The teenage hormones of other kids at their school seemed to pick up on it, identifying optimism as a foreign object and aiming to destroy it. There would be an intimidating group of popular girls in her way, gazes condescending and vocabulary sharpened to cut steel, and Freida would just smile, tell them their makeup looked great, to keep looking like boss bitches and slide past them like a ghost.

Cleo is always close behind. Executing scary dog privileges for the walking ball of fluff and good vibes. Perhaps that is the cause of their sleepover-less lives. Not Cleo, no no no, while it would be easy to sum up their limited interactions with other teenagers to Cleo, the literal embodiment of 'touch me you die, touch my sister and you'll wish you'd died', it's a lot more complicated than that.

The microwave beeped. April grabbed the metal bowl from under the cabinets filling it with the delicious treat.

They never seem to go anywhere without each other, knowing where the other is and have it confirmed thrice over. There might be some worry for each other that comes with being in a new city, especially one as large as New York. But you would think that would lessen up as the days drag on. Oh well, until then she'll put up with their antics, so hopefully someday they can be less codependent.
