Usually, when someone says they quit smoking, that should imply that they also quit drugs. That's how Jungkook saw it, at least. Jungkook proved himself wrong.
Him, Taehyung, Mingyu, and two other friends of theirs, Hansol and Seungcheol, had just got settled by the side of the huge indoor pool of the hotel they had been invited to. They had pushed 5 chaise longues close together and gotten rid of their t-shirts. Each chaise longue was occupied by a towel.
To his shame, Jungkook couldn't stop himself from checking the others out when they pulled their t-shirts over their heads and couldn't see his eyes prying. Mingyu did shoot him a smirk, which made the younger panic and look away, realizing what he had done. Seriously? Checking his guy friends out? That was so weird of him. And gay, but technically, he was almost done with accepting the fact he was bisexual, so that couldn't really count as an insult anymore.
What he ended up looking at when averting his eyes from Mingyu, however, caught all his attention immediately. Taehyung was taking his shirt off too, a little later than the rest because he took more time to get settled. And oh. Oh God.
Had Taehyung always had this body? He didn't have visible abs, but holy shit his whole body was toned and just... shiny... That was such a weird observation, Jungkook wanted to slap himself. His eyes just wouldn't leave Taehyung, not even when the older caught him staring.
Another clue that he was attracted to Taehyung: he was way more handsome than the others. He checked the other boys out for a few seconds, but he'd check Taehyung out 24/7 if he could. Seven days a week, thirty-one days a month.
Hansol brought him back to reality when he thrusted a joint in his face, the smell of weed filling his senses. Jungkook took it with some excitement because he really needed it. He looked for his lighter but couldn't find it in his jacket pockets. Fuck, did he forget it again?
"Someone pass me a lighter," he sighed after giving up trying to find it. Mingyu came to his aid, lighting up the joint held between Jungkook's lips while softly holding his jaw. They looked at each other while he did that. Mingyu was the only one out of his friends who knew about his sexuality. While it did annoy him, it also came as a sort of comfort.
When the joint was lit up, Mingyu winked at him and subtly nodded his head to the side before pulling away.
Why would he... oh. Jungkook glanced to his side to see Taehyung gripping his own lighter, white knuckles covering dry purple paint. He was glaring daggers at Mingyu's back.
Jungkook felt a vague sense of guilt when the older just stuffed the lighter back in his clothes. If only he had noticed him before Mingyu offered to help... Not like he could do anything about it now. He should've said something.
Even so, Jungkook took the joint out of his mouth and studied it for a moment. He was contemplating something stupid. It was a big roll, and he hadn't gotten high in months...
He turned to Taehyung while the others were talking among themselves. "Do you want to share?"
Taehyung shot him a mute surprised look. The younger hadn't forgotten that he quit, but the concern was real. Jungkook couldn't finish that joint himself. He didn't want to get so high he'd forget himself. Surprising, wasn't it?
"It's been a while, and I don't think I'll be able to tolerate all of it," he explained. It felt sort of coward-ish to admit it like that.
The older looked at the joint with squinted eyes. Jungkook was already preparing to ask one of the other guys to share, but Taehyung groaned next to him. "Sure. Just give it to me when you feel like it."
There came the question now: Did Taehyung accept because he also wanted to get high or just because Jungkook asked him to? Because if it was the last one, Jungkook would have had no idea how to react. The last one was also the most probable, considering that the older has quit smoking.
So here they were, sitting next to each other (this time Taehyung actually and willingly sat next to him, Jungkook's ego reminded him), talking to the others, while Jungkook pondered how bad of an influence he could have if he just convinced his best friend to get high.
Must be pretty bad, considering Taehyung had quit smoking. Unless he only meant quit smoking ordinary cigarettes, in which case drugs were still an option. Still, this wasn't the best excuse to talk to him.
The overthinking was short-lived this time, because after a few drags from the joint in his hand, Jungkook couldn't care less about anything or anyone. He was actually starting to have fun, laughing more, even when the jokes weren't that funny. The others were no different, being almost done with their joints and preparing other ones already.
Jungkook still had half of his, and damn him if he wasn't going to finish it! He could vaguely recall telling Taehyung to share, but he didn't know why he told him that anymore. Only when the older took the joint out of his hand did Jungkook snap to reality for a second.
"Hey," he protested, turning his head.
Taehyung had moved to sit next to him on the same chaise longue, so their faces were inches apart. The older brought the joint to his lips with his eyes on Jungkook. "You said you can't tolerate it all."
"Past me was a pussy. Give it back."
"Past you was sober. I'll give it to him when he asks. You're already fucked up."
Jungkook didn't have the energy to argue, nor did he want to. He felt so relaxed, nothing could ruin his mood. He leaned on Taehyung and closed his eyes with a sigh. "Haa... you're lucky I like you, Taehyung. You could've just kissed me and shut me up."
The other boys were cackling and cooing in front of them, taking his words as a joke and too high to pay them any thought. If only they knew that he had meant it. Taehyung seemed to know, judging by the stiffness in his shoulders. Mingyu too, because he had that annoying knowing glint in his eyes.
"I think it's time to get you wet, Jungkook," the latter said.
"Pervert," he replied, half-opening his eyes to fix him with a look that was meant to be scary; it wasn't. Then he raised his head to look at Taehyung. "If you go, I go."
Something flashed in Taehyung's eyes, but he couldn't register it. He finished the joint and placed a hand on Jungkook's lower back to help him stand up. They weren't so high they couldn't walk straight. They were fine for now.
"It's gonna be cold."
"Good," Jungkook said. He just hoped he remembered how to swim.
