Chapter 2- Our Little Group

Present Day

An alarm clock sounded nearby Lake's ear. She groaned and slammed her hand on the clock to turn it off.

"Lake, come eat breakfast."

Lake lifted her head from the soft pillow. Another dream about her dad? Was this his way of communicating with her?

Did he even think about her after he left?

"Lake... Are you alright?"

She lifted her eyes to Jody Mills. She currently lives with the police officer/hunter. Bonnie promised she'd return for her. She never did.

Bonnie stayed back in Mystic Falls to create a safe home for her daughter's arrival. Still she'd call every so often to check on her.

At least, Lake was able to make a couple friends in her new home.

"I'm fine, Jody," Lake reassured, standing up to stretch, "What's for breakfast?"

"Pancakes and bacon," Jody said, "If you ever need to talk..."

"I'm fine," Lake snapped, causing the lights in the house to flicker.

Jody tensed up as a result. Lake instantly regretted her burst of anger and calmed herself.

"I'm sorry. I just had a bad dream. I don't mean to take it out on you," Lake said softly.

"It's alright. I understand," Jody said, walking out of her room.

Lake did her usual hygiene and got dressed. Then she went out to the kitchen to fix herself a plate.

"Rise and shine, Princess," Ace smiled.

Ace Salvatore was Valerie Tulle and Stefan Salvatore's son. Until his teenage years, he was hidden away from his father. So Ace was much older than he looked.

He also helped raise and take care of Lake. So to her, he was like an older brother she never knew she needed.

Jody had no idea that Ace wasn't human. He never showed his vampirism around her. He learned how to control his primal urges a long time ago.

"Morning," Lake greeted.

"What's on the agenda today? Sobbing under a tree or world domination," Ace asked.

"The same as yesterday, Pinky," Lake teased, "Taking over the world."

"Atta, girl," Ace smirked, winking at her.

He grabbed a tangerine from the fruit bowl and went to bother someone else.

"Lake, I need your help," Sasha said, rushing up to her.

She turned to Sasha. Sasha Winchester was Cassie Robinson and Dean Winchester's daughter. And like her parents, she was gorgeous!

Lake has had a crush on her since they were kids.

"What's up," Lake asked, pouring syrup on her pancakes.

"I need help picking out a dress," Sasha said, holding up two dresses.

One was navy blue and kinda sparkly. The other was red and silky in texture.

"Are you going on a date," Lake asked.

"No. This is for a hunt," Sasha corrected.

"I'm guessing, you're hiding weapons under the dresses. So I say choose the navy blue one," Lake said, pointing at the blue dress.

"Thanks, babe," Sasha beamed, rushing to get dressed.

Lake finished her breakfast and headed out the door. The house was suffocating, and she didn't feel like staying any longer than necessary.

So she started walking down the street. There was no destination in particular. Lake zoned out while walking.

That was until she heard a car, honking at her.

"You okay, Lake," Dominic asked, driving next to her.

Dominic Hale was Peter Hale's son. He was also the older brother of Malia Hale. Unlike the others, he had his own place, so he didn't live with Jody.

Peter's looks did not skip out on Dominic either. He was as handsome as his father.

"I'm fine. Just clearing my head," Lake said, still walking.

"Want to go for a drive then? It'll be safer than walking," Dominic offered.

Lake hesitated. It's not that she didn't trust him. Lake trusted the man with her life. He was one of her best friends.

Dominic simply had issues with staying out of his family's shit. So if Peter or Derek called, he'd come running. Every. Damn. Time.

From how loyal he was, you'd think he was a Winchester instead of a Hale.

"Know what? Sure," Lake said, giving in.

Dominic stopped the car and unlocked the door. Lake hopped into the passenger seat.

"Where are we going," Lake asked.

"It's a surprise," Dominic said.

"I will jump out of this damn car, Dominic," Lake threatened.

He laughed at the empty threat.

"A place you know all too well," Dominic smirked, "Mystic Falls."
