Safe In Her Arms

Melissa's POV:

We're hosting Katie's family and my family this week. So we've decided just to have an engagement party while everyone is here. Currently we're heading to the grocery store to buy some groceries for us to eat while everyone is here. "So what does your family like darling?" Katie asks. "Oh love, they'll eat anything. They're not picky. I'm more worried about what your family will want." I replied. "They're not picky either. They're just excited to meet you." Katie replied.  "Oh ok." I said with a smile. "Darling. Don't be nervous. They're gonna love you." Katie said reassuringly. "I hope so." I said as we pulled into the grocery tor parking lot.

I grab our reusable bags out of the backseat and take Katie's hand as we head inside. "Let's start at the back and work our way up to the front." Katie says. "Works for me." I replied as we begin walking  around. I quickly notice the looks we're getting. "Looks like you have fans darling." Katie whispers as two young girls approach us. "Hello!" I say greeting them. "Hi..." They say nervously. "Would you like an autograph? Or a picture? Or both?" I ask sweetly. "B..both...please..." One of them asks. "Ok come here, Katie...would you do the honors?" I asked. "Of course love." Katie replied. That's when the second girl's eyes went wide. "Can we have a photo with you too?" She asks looking at Katie. "Of course sweetheart." Katie replies.

Katie's POV:

After taking pictures with the sweetest fans Melissa and I continue our shopping trip. "That was nice." Melissa said. "Yes it was!  I always like getting recognized in public. Especially since it rarely happens." I replied. "Really? You don't get recognized in public?" Melissa asked. "Not really, and if it does happen it's rare." I replied. "I'm sorry sweetheart, maybe you'll get recognized more often now that we're engaged." Melissa says with a smile. "I'm ok not getting recognized, but if it happens more it's cool too." I said as we picked up some meats.

Half way through the store we stopped to get some different crisps to have for snacks. "Now what else do you think we'll  need?" I asked looking at Melissa. "Hmm maybe some dips or hummus or something. I plan on making some baked goods when we get home for them to munch on." Melissa says. "Are you gonna make those delicious tea cakes?" I asked. "Of course!" Melissa replied with a smile.

Melissa's POV:

A half hour later we're back home and I'm making tea cakes along with some cookies and brownies, while Katie's upstairs preparing the bedrooms and bathrooms. My family arrive tonight while hers arrives tomorrow morning. I was taking the brownies out of their pan when I felt arms wrap around my waist. "These smell delicious darling." Katie says. "Thank you sweetheart. Your tea cakes are over their cooling on the rack." I added. Katie wagged her eyebrows at me before she walked over to get a drink out of the fridge.

"What time are your mom and sisters coming?" Katie asked. "In thirty minutes or so." I replied. "And your dad?" Katie asked softly knowing that my dad is a bit of a sore subject for me. "Him and his new family aren't going to be able to make it." I replied a little bitterly. "Mel...I'm sorry." Katie said rubbing my shoulder. "It's ok love." I replied with a smile. "Well the beds are all set, and the bathrooms are stocked with toiletries." Katie said. I smiled at her as I finished plating the brownies.
