Gabriel woke up the next morning, feeling oddly well rested. It was the first time he had slept through the night in a very long time. He slowly made his way to the bathroom, turning on the shower and waiting for it to warm up. He pulled off his clothes, yawning as he stretched. He glanced down at his arm, unwrapping the bandage Sam had applied last night. His arm didn't look to bad. The fresh cuts had started to scab over.
He climbed into the shower, letting the hot water roll down his back and chest. He let out a happy sigh, enjoying the warmth. His arm stung a little when he washed it, but it wasn't bad, and it didn't bleed anymore. That was always good. It was easier to hide when he wasn't bleeding. Gabriel finished his shower quickly, drying off and getting dressed. He ignored the looks Castiel was giving him as he ate breakfast. His mind was focused on his interactions with Sam from yesterday. As they rode the bus to school, Gabriel wondered what would happen now. Where would they go from here? He didn't know what to expect, but it definitely was not for Sam to be waiting for him at the entrance when the bus arrived.
Gabriel stood up, making his way off the bus as Sam stepped up to meet him. Castiel was close behind, glaring at Sam the whole time. It was clear he did not trust the boy, and did not want Gabriel alone with him. Unfortunately for him, Gabriel had made up his mind. Sam wanted to be his friend again, and Gabriel wanted the same thing.
Gabriel waved bye to his brother, following Sam towards their lockers. Neither boy spoke at first, the air growing awkward. They didn't know what to say. Gabriel didn't want to bring up their conversations from before, and Sam still felt guilty as hell about everything. The happiness in Gabriel's eyes dimmed a little when he realized Sam was not going to speak. He opened his locker, suddenly glad that he had his small flask tucked between his books. It seemed like he would need it today after all. Sam wanted to say something, anything, just to assure Gabriel that he had meant it when he stayed last night, but it was hard to find the words. Clearly he had waited to long. Gabriel sighed, closing his locker and heading to his first class. It was going to be a long day.
Sam sat through his class, his mind still trying to come up with a way to be able to talk to his friend. It was weird thinking of Gabriel as his friend again. Weird, but not hard. He never really lost his fondness of the boy, it had just been overpowered by his fear. He hoped that if he hung around him enough, that he would find the right words.
As the classes passed, Sam watched the clock, waiting for gym class to come so that he could try again. Unfortunately Gabriel seemed to have other plans. By the time class started, Sam realized that Gabriel had no plans of showing up. He knew where he would be, but now he had to wait another 45 minutes before he could go find him. He silently hoped that it would not be a repeat of yesterday when he joined him in the roof.
Class ended and Sam quickly left, heading directly to the roof. He had a bad feeling in his chest, he knew he was not going to like what was waiting for him.
The first thing Sam noticed, was that the door was propped open. The second was the sounds of someone in pain, followed by laughing. Sam quickly climbed the steps, walking out onto the roof to the scene taking place.
Three boys were surrounding Gabriel, who was on his hands and knees. Sam watched as one of the boys kicked him in the stomach. Anger rushed through Sam, he lunged forward, grabbing one of the boys from behind and pulling him away from Gabriel.
"Leave him alone!"
Sam was seething. The three boys stared at him in shock. Gabriel looked up, Sam noticed a bruise forming on his cheek and his lip bleeding slightly. He put himself between Gabriel and the boys, daring them to make a move.
The tallest of the three, who was still a few inches shorter than Sam, stepped forward.
"Why do you care what we do to him? It's not like he is anyone special."
