The next week passed smoothly. Sam had spoken to his hospital shrink the day after he got home, talking through what had happened. He told him the same story he ahd told his brothers, that being home and seeing people again had caused him to panic. He knew the doctor didn't buy a word of it, but he didn't challenge the story. After all, he had grown accustomed to picking out the truths in Sam's words, even if 80% of what he said was complete bull. Today was the last day of summer break, and he was sitting in the office of his new therapist. He liked Dr. McCloud, or as she preferred to be called, Rowena. She had a motherly way about her that made Sam feel safe. This was his 3rd visit with her, since she wanted him to get comfortable talking with her before he went back to school. He was currently sitting on her soft green bean bag while she was in her chair across from him.

"OK Sam, no more games. Tell me how you really feel about going back to school tomorrow."

This was another thing he liked about her. She was straight forward. Unlike the hospital shrink, she didn't play games with her words, or ask subtle questions. She was blunt and to the point.

"I'm nervous."

"Of course you are darling. Anyone in your shoes would be. What are you nervous about?"

Sam didn't think before answering. He didn't know why he could be so honest with her, he felt like he could trust her.

"Everything. All the people, all the noise. The bright lights that look just like the ones in the ones in the hospital. I'm scared that people will find out what really happened. What I did. I don't want anyone to know."

Rowena nodded, jotting down a few notes as Sam spoke.

"Dean says that your friend Gabriel keeps trying to come see you, but that you won't let him in."

There was no question in her words, but there was no accusation either. She was just stating a fact.

"That's right. I don't want to see him."

Rowena watched him for a moment, giving him a comforting smile before speaking again. Sam could tell she was choosing her words carefully.

"Sam, I know you never told Dr. Wright why wou attempted to take your life, and I have already told you that you don't have to tell me until you are ready, but does it have anything to do with your old friend? Did something happen between you two?"

Sam gave her a horrified look, as if Gabriel could have ever done anything to hurt him.

"No! He didn't do anything! Is that what you think? Is that what Dean and Michael think?"

"We don't think anything Sam.your brothers just want to make sure you are okay, and they just thought it was a little odd that you didn't want to see your best friend after 3 months."

"Yeah well I'm a little odd."

Sam mumbled under his breath. By the look rowena was giving him, he knew she had heard him.

"Sam."

Sam sighed. One of rowenas rules was that during their sessions, Sam could say anything he wanted to, as long as it wasn't talking down on himself.

"Sorry sorry."

"Will you tell me why you don't want to see him?"

"It's not him I don't want to see. I just don't want to see anyone."

Sam knew that she could call his bluff. It was partially true, it wasn't just Gabriel he didn't want to see. He just couldn't bring himself to say who he specifically didn't want to see. He may trust her, but he was not going to bring the past fully to the table today.
