I needed help.
Planning a wedding in less than two months turned out to be as exhausting as escaping from the hunters. If someone had warned me about all the sleepless nights I would have to spend and how much I would have to run from one store to the next, I would have done everything possible to delay the wedding date.
It's not that I wasn't excited to be Almec's wife, that was the only reason I hadn't given up yet. Besides, I wasn't the only person that was trying so hard to make my dream come true.
"What do you think of this?" Almec asked me, showing me a bag of herbal tea.
I smelled it, it was so soft that it got lost among the rest of the aromas in the tea shop. "I'm not sure."
Almec put the bag on the shelf next to him without taking his eyes off my face. He was searching for something, I could tell by the way his eyes scanned every millimeter of my skin.
"Are you sure you don't want to take a day off?" He asked me, hugging my waist. "You look tired, your attempt to hide your dark circles isn't fooling anyone."
"Thanks for the compliment," I murmured, hiding my face in his chest.
"That's not what I was trying to say and you know it, you look beautiful as always." Almec kissed the crown of my head. "But I'm worried about your health. You're working very hard for the wedding and I barely put in half the effort you do. I'm sorry about that, I can talk to Geldra to cover for me more time."
"That is not necessary." I raised my head and pecked his lips. "I can take care of it, plus I'm not alone, Khalia, Demian, and Wina help me a lot. The pack needs you more than me right now."
Hypocrisy. One second I was complaining about all the work I had to do, asking for a little rest, and the next, I was denying Almec's help.
In another situation I would have accepted his offer in an instant but the reality was that Almec was as exhausted as I was. While I couldn't sleep trying to decide which flowers to use for the decoration, Almec was in his office trying to contact the Moon Guardians Pack.
We knew when we chose the wedding date that it wasn't going to be easy, so neither of us was going to back down when complications arose.
"I'm not getting married to my pack, they can wait a little."
"The pack is your priority as an alpha."
"You and Faustina are my priority, even before my duty as alpha," Almec said, squeezing my waist before releasing it. "The only reason I'm not with you every moment is because I'm worried that the Moon Guardians Pack will try to attack you, it wouldn't be the first time they used an alpha's mate to defeat him."
"Still no answers about Ezra?" I grabbed his hands.
"No, I'm still trying to get his body back. After what happened to him at least he deserves a funeral."
Almec's voice broke, just as it did every time he spoke of the death of his friend. Everyone could see that it hurt him more than he dared to show, even Faustina made him a special painting to make him feel better.
"That's enough Ezra for today." Almec faked a smile and kissed my forehead. "Let's focus on the wedding, at least let me help you with this."
"You help me a lot," I told him, caressing his cheek. "Don't you think it would be easier to ask Myra?"
"But I want us to do it."
I had to use a lot of force to contain my laughter, Almec was pouting, and the worst of all is that it was working to convince me.
