Stop being the alpha or look for another mate, two tragic fates that didn't stop torturing me for an entire week.
I could barely sleep, eating was a battle, and the preparations for the wedding became the perfect excuse to escape from Almec.
The closer I got to the date, the greater the fear that invaded me, but the worst night of all was the one before the day of the ceremony.
Every time I closed my eyes I saw the faces of the pack members full of disgust, and among them was Almec with a beautiful woman next to him. She was so perfect, my replacement, everyone seemed to smile because of her. I, on the other hand, only received pity and hateful looks.
The sun rose and I still hadn't been able to sleep, although I wasn't ready to abandon the bed either. Leaving my room would mean facing the day of my judgment and I was too terrified to do it.
"Good morning," Faustina said, stretching her arms out.
"Good morning, Princesa." I returned her greeting before kissing the side of her head. "How did you sleep?"
"Great, I had a very funny dream in which we had many puppies. What did you dream about?"
"I can't remember," I lied. I was about to find an excuse to ask her to leave me alone when her stomach grumbled. "I see you are hungry. Why don't you hurry up and go have breakfast? I'll be there a little later."
"Okay, but don't expect me to save you any food." She stuck her tongue out at me and jumped out of bed.
Faustina took the hurry part very seriously, I had never seen her prepare to start the day so quickly. Part of me doubted that she had brushed her teeth properly but at that moment I didn't care as long as she left me alone.
"See you later," she greeted me before leaving the room.
I took a deep breath, thinking that I would finally have my moment in silence to drown in my fears one last time. However my plans were ruined in a matter of seconds.
"Can I come in?" Almec asked me from the other side of the door.
"Get in." I gave up. There was no way I could win against Almec, especially after ignoring him for so long.
Without caring about my disheveled hair or the horrible dark circles that had been with me for several days, I sat on the bed while Almec entered the room with a tray of food in his hands.
A part of my nerves disappeared when I saw Almec's smile that never failed to scare away the darkness. He didn't even have to do something to bring joy to my life, his presence alone gave me the hope I needed.
"Special breakfast for the special day," he said, kicking the door shut.
"What is the real reason?" I asked him, moving to the side to give him space on the bed.
"What do you mean? I want you to start the day of your ceremony in the best way possible." Almec put the tray on my lap and sat next to me.
"I don't doubt that, but I'm sure it's not the only reason," I insisted before taking a sip of the coffee.
"It's impossible to hide anything from you," he said, moving my hair out of my face. "Although I didn't say anything before, I noticed your change, I wasn't sure if you wanted to talk about it so I waited for you to come find me but that never happened."
"I'm fine, it's just tiredness from all the things I have to do."
Almec grabbed my free hand, brought it to his lips, and kissed my knuckles gently.
