"You know how my cousin, Ruben, told me that grandma was going out of town to buy one of her creepy dolls for her dolls collection," James blurred out.
I tighten the grip on the single strap of my pack bag that hung on my shoulder. "Yeah, it was two days ago." I looked at him.
"Well, turns out that she wasn't going out of town and saw that I had a party," he continued on. "Instead of punishing me she let my older, Irresponsible, cousin have control over me. I mean full blown on control. He knows the code to house security, my bank account, and even my screen time," he yelled at me.
"It's not funny." He pushed me.
"I'm not laughing." I pushed him back. He continued to complain about his 'unfair' punishment for having a party at his place without the knowledge of his guardians, on the way to our Spanish class.
No one has talked to me over the weekend, besides James who has a good reason not to. I know that Lucy has problems at home lately. It's the way she has been distant. I think it's getting worse, but she won't let me bring it up. She likes to act tougher than she actually is. She pushes people away when it feels to closer than comfortable. Which is unlike Josie, yet she is acting just like Lucy.
She left early after the party. Which was weird, since she helped prepare with James. I couldn't get hold of her. All my calls went to voicemail.
Moat of the students were already here, including the girls. I sat down on my usual spot beside Josie. Her face was buried in her note book. Writing down the things the teacher wrote on the board. Eventually the class fell into a silent slumber.
"Josie," I called out for her. She didn't budge writing down more things in her cursive handwriting. "Josie." I repeated myself. This time she definitely heard me, but willingly chose to ignore my effort to reach out for her.
I looked around my table searching for something small to get her attention. The only thing that I could throw that would have severely injured her was my pencil. It hit her on the shoulder. It bounced down, making a small noice when it made contact with the floor.
She took a deep breath before turning her head my way. "What."
I was taken back by her words. Shocked by how her eyes pierced through my soul. They were round and brown, like bug. Yet so beautiful. No one would even dare to think that those eyes would be able to harm anyone.
"Nothing," I eventually said.
The time went excruciating long. Minutes felt like eternities. Josie was one of the first people to leave. I packed my belongings and ran after her. Demanding some sort of explanation.
I grabbed her arm. She fully turned her body, but her eyes were avoiding me. "What's going on. Did I do something?" I asked her eager to fix whatever harm I have caused her.
