I slide down the railing. The early morning sun shined in to our kitchen. My mom was making herself breakfast while my brother munched on some cereal in a humongous bowl.

How awfully considerate of him to cut the empty cereal box in small pieces. It just add lot the atmosphere.

"Where are you going so early?" My mom eyes me up and down.

"School." I grabbed a protein bar instead.

"Why are you leaving so early to school lately? And don't even think of saying you are going to use your bike. You didn't bring it back last night." She ranted.

I placed my phone on the counter while filling my water bottle. my phone lighted up from a text message. Liam who just placed his empty bowl in the sink, picked my phone up.

I snatched it from him. His narrowed his eyes and was about to say something, but my mom spoke instead. "And the car. You need to bring it home tonight, or else you be in a lot of trouble."

I left the house while she was too busy complaining about me losing valuable stuff. Theo left me a text message.

Need a ride to school? Theo texted me.

No I'm good. I typed fast.

Down a familiar path I found myself in front of a large house on the outskirts of the woods.

My parent's car stood spotless and better than last time I saw it. I traced my fingers along the surface of the car. Smooth as it look like.

I knocked on the door. There was no worse thing as a mother wrath. I would not dare to come home without the car.

A young girl with pigtails opened the door.

"Josie?" Lilly eyes widened.

"Could you get Brett please?" I asked

She looked back into the house. Behind her pushed the man of the hour the door fully open. His pack bag hung on one side while the other in his blazer pocket.

He motioned her to go inside again. A lump sat down my throat. I just wanted to run away. To disappear. It would be easier that way.

"I need my keys." I pointed to the car.

He opened his fist where they laid. I reached for them, but he closed his hand.

"I'm coming with you." He walked past me.

Brett is headstrong, with a large presence. If he wanted something, he would get no matter what.

"I'm not driving you home." I placed myself in front of the driver side.

"You are driving?" He crossed his arms.

"It's my car." I mimicked his action.

"Surprising considering you almost demolished it last time." He shifted in his place.
