Sophie Foster POV
While Professor Dumbledore made his speech, me, my friends, our families, and the Black Swan were there, waiting for us to enter the Great Hall.
"Are you sure about this kiddo?" Grady asked me as we got ready to enter. "I think this is a risky idea, to meddle with this 'Human Magic',"
"Well there's no turning back now," I said, tugging on my eyelashes. Grady put a comforting hand on my shoulder. I glanced behind me to see Alden telling Fitz that there is 'No reason to worry,' while Grady turned around, and walked over to Mr. Forkle to talk about the plan. Mr. Forkle's idea to"explore" and to be "exposed to" different types of "magic" was good, but it meant staying at Hogwarts for a week. I was so immersed in worries that I didn't notice that someone was calling my name. I looked up to see that Keefe was the one saying my name.
"Hey! You there, Foster?" He said."If you can hear me, please tone those emotions down, I can hear them from all the way across the room!"
"Yes, I am listening, Keefe. I'm just worried," I said, tugging out more eyelashes.
"You know that I'm worried too, right?" He said, meeting my eyes. "This is a risky plan,"
"I know," I said,"What if something happens? Anything could happen!"
Keefe looked away, probably thinking about the horrifying possibilities. We both stood in silence for a moment, but when Professor McGonagall walked over, we both knew it was time to get serious. And soon enough, I was sorted into Gryffindor and was now walking out of my first class, potions class with Professor Snape.
Professor McGonagall led me down several different hallways and staircases that I could never remember. But at some point, she said,
"As you may know, Sophie, I am Professor McGonagall, deputy headmistress at Hogwarts."
I nodded as we stopped at a door. With a flick of her wand, Professor McGonagall opened the door, which made me reach for my own wand. Its wood was holly, the core was dragon heartstring, and it measured eleven inches. As we entered the room, Professor McGonagall said:
"You may be wondering why I called you here, to my office. Come inside and I will explain,"
I nodded, tugged on my new Gryffindor uniform and walked inside. Professor McGonagall's office was a nice circular room, with bookshelves lining the walls, a big desk, and an equally big swiveling desk chair.
"Please sit down," she said, gesturing to a chair, in front of the desk.
As I sat down, a memory hit me. The format of the room reminded me of the time Keefe spun in a big desk chair to make his dramatic entrance while he was with the Neverseen..
No. Don't get sucked into the past. Focus, Sophie! I thought. I looked at Professor McGonagall.
"The reason that I have brought you here today is to talk about your unique powers," She said.
Powers? Really? That's what everyone is going to call them?
I winced. "I would prefer it being called my abilities," I told her. "Sorry,"
"No problem, Miss Foster, abilities it is," She said. "Professor Dumbledore and Mr. Forkle told me your abilities are more special than other elves. I was wondering if you could expand on that."
I thought about what I would tell her. It would take some time to explain all five of my abilities.
"Well, Professor Dumbledore was right about that," I said."Most elves have one ability, or two if they are a Polyglot," I hesitated to say the rest, but went on."But, I have... five," I said.
