'What am I gonna do with him?'
Alfred can only groan.
-
"Do we have eyes on the targets?"
"Copy."
"Move in?"
"Negative. Stay put."
"Still don't get why we can't outright kill the fucker!"
"Calm yourself Iowa, we don't want the Comms getting too loud. You know Fathers hearing is sensitive."
"Yeah yeah, whatever."
"I say we kidnap him when Dad goes to the bathroom!"
"Too noticeable, Pa'll immediately think it was a terrorist organisation."
"We ain't no terrorists!"
"..might as well be-"
"FUCK YOU SAY TO ME WISCONSIN?!"
"I WAS SAYING YOU'RE A LITTLE BITCH THAT'S WHAT!"
"Why I oughta.."
"I'm just saying, Ohio, if you loved me you'd let me get the first backhand!"
"And I'm saying that he's gonna be hung by his hair when we get a hold of him. You can do that later with his dead body!"
"Man, you're no fun."
"Can someone help braid my hair? This wind is messing it up."
"Sure."
"Thanks Alaska."
"LETS CRUCIFY HIM!"
"CHOP HIS NUTS OFF!"
"GIVE HIM THE COPPER BULL SPECIALTY!"
"ENOUGH."
Conneticuts voice cuts through their arguments, silencing the communication device. Delaware sighs in relief, sending a thankful glance to her brother. He sends her a thumbs up, then returns to the shadows.
Currently, every single state is stationed inside, outside, in the surrounding area or the ceiling of the restaurant. How they found out? I don't know. But the one thing I do is that you don't mess with a single fathers parent. Especially if you are dating said parent.
"Hawaii, do you have ears on them? What excatly is happening?"
Delaware asks, if a bit anxiously. She doesn't want to let it show, but this really has stressed her just as much as the rest of the states.
"Russia is currently hardcore flirting with Dad. Oh, and some sexual innuendos too. Damn, he is going full force with this. I haven't seen Dad's face this red since we brought a wendigo home thinking it was a dog."
Hawaii rambles on, a distant expression on her face, as if reminiscing on better times.
The silence over the comm speaks for itself. Every state has to breath in deeply, if only to keep their temper. If one looses it now, all of them follow.
New Hampshires voice echoes over,
"And Pops isn't uncomfortable with it? I've got eyes on him, but can't excatly see from this point. Having glasses doesn't help."
Delaware winces, moving closer towards the window to get a better look. She glances over to her father, looking down. Despite the increasing redness in his face, his smile is as bright as ever. In fact, she can tell he's trying to smother it with how large it's growing.
A soft grin forms on her face.
"On the contrary, he looks to be enjoying it."
Immediately, she hears the outrage of her siblings over the comm, and just decides to take it out of her ear. Edging closer, she observes her father and Russia for a few minutes more.
They'd finished their food by the time she put it back in her ear, and she had a lot to say.
"Everyone."
She waits for the accusations to quiet, grumbling as they watch their father like a hawk while waiting for her answer.
"I think we should leave them."
Before they can say anything, she cuts them off,
"Just look at them. Look at how happy Father is. When was the last time he was like this, except when with us?"
She can see everyone look away, no matter how far. They know she's right, but don't like to admit it.
"But how will we know if he's good enough? What if he's just waiting to break Dad's heart again?"
Pennsylvania pipes up, breaking the heavy atmosphere.
"Oh I'm just saying we don't kill him. I'm not saying we can't cause bodily harm and threaten him before he does so."
Delaware casually responds. They can practically hear the grin in her voice. As one, all the states turn to the direction of Russia, and sharp grins mirror the others.

Ivan shivers, a trickle of fear crawling up his spine. Alfred rambles on, not noticing Ivan's tensed state.
'What was that?'
He feels as if they're being watched. No, not Alfred.
Just him.
