I wake up with a biggest smile on my face. I don't know if it's the heavy rain that's pouring outside or a beautiful dream, I dreamed.

I take my phone and see a text from my boyfriend.

"Good morning girlfriend."

I smile even wider looking at the text. I remember the last week we spent together, waking up in each other's arms, giving each other good morning kisses. I kind of crave for that but this is okay too.

"Good morning my boyfriend." I text back.

"What are you doing?" He replies within seconds.

"Thinking about our cozy mornings in Sikkim." I tell him.

Within seconds my phone is ringing with "Dr. Nishan" on screen.

"The weather is too romantic darling; wish you were here." He says as soon as I pick up the call.

"Yes, we'd have enjoyed hot milk tea together." I say, messing with him.

"That's exactly what I wanted." He sarcastically replies.

Our call is interrupted with one of my patient's calls. I receive the call and get to know she's having a terrible labor pain. I tell her to immediately come to the hospital. I dial Nishan's number and tell him everything while getting changed.

"Let me come pick you up." He says.

"I don't have time for that Nishan. I'll have to run now." I say.

"Okay Shruti. I'll see you at the hospital." He says and I hung up.

This is the best thing about working in the same field. We understand each other's unstable schedules and emergency cases. I change my clothes and go to my parent's room. Mom and dad are enjoying rain, sitting in the balcony, with a sip of tea and yummy gwaramari.

"Mom dad, I'm leaving. Emergency!" I say.

"Eat this!" Mom feeds me a warm gwaramari.

"Okay Shruti, all the best. See you tonight." They say and I leave.

I drive to the hospital and change into scrubs as soon as possible.

I enter the room; the room is brightly lit and is filled with sounds of beeping monitors. My team is ready to bring a life in this world. Nirisha, my 27-year-old patient is crying on the delivery bed. Rahish, her husband is standing beside her, holding her hands and is telling her that she can do it.

"Thank God you're here doctor." Rahish says as he sees me.

"It's hurting a lot doctor." Nirisha cries.

"You're doing great Nirisha. On the text contraction, I want you to push as hard as you can, okay?" I monitor her condition.

Nirisha nods and cries in pain. Lisa, the nurse assists her.

"It's so hard. I can't." Nirisha lets out a big breath.

"You can do this Nirisha. Push harder." I say noticing the beginning of another contraction.

"Darling come on." Rahish encourages his wife.

Nirisha takes a deep breath and pushes but nothing happens. Nirisha lets out a frustrating sigh.

"Please come out!" She shouts.

"Nirisha in few minutes, you'll see your beautiful baby. Come on, push harder." I say.

Nirisha pushes again with all her remaining strength and I can see the baby's head.

"I can see the head Nirisha. You're almost there! One big push come on." I assist her.
