My eyes opened weakly from the darkness to find my mother resting beside me, "Momma?"
Instantly, she woke up and pulled me into her arms, "Oh baby girl!" She whimpered as she rocked me.
Needing to see Josh, I struggled in her arms, "Where is he?"
"Calm down JoJo. You've been unconscious for almost two weeks from saving him. You could have killed yourself. You need to rest."
My heart stopped, "Saving him?"
As she nodded her head, I felt him coming toward us. How is this possible, he is dead. This is all a dream, I will wake up and be back in hell. When the door opened, I shoved away the relief it gave me to see Josh standing in the doorway. When I did wake up, I would die without him. I would join him with Goddess. I needed to wake up, to be with him.
Mom rubbed my back, "What's wrong?"
"I need to wake up."
Josh frowned at me and moved closed, tears in his eyes, "I'm here baby. You saved me."
"No. You died. You're heart stopped." My cry turned to sobbing and the vision of him blurred. "This isn't real. I need to wake up."
Mom sighed, "You aren't asleep. I don't know how you did it but you brought him back to life, maybe it was your mark."
Josh moved closer, "I'm here, it's really me."
As realization began to sink in, my tears of pain turned to tears of joy as I stood and jumped off the bed into his arms. "I love you so much. You can't do that." I punched him on the back in anger, "You can't leave me like that."
He held me tighter, "I'm so sorry but I'm here now." He buried his face in my hair and kissed my mark, "I'm here."
My Mom slipped out of the room, as she looked at me with watery eyes.
Burying my face into his neck, I sobbed and wrapped my legs tighter around him. "You died!"
He carried me over to the bed and sat down, keeping a tight hold on me. "I know." He ran his fingers through my hair, "But I'm alive now."
"How?"
He shrugged, "You saved me."
The memories began to flood back and I moved his collar to the side, looking for my mark, "I marked you."
He smiled and nodded, "You did."
"Do you remember anything?"
"It was strange, I was still in my body but I couldn't do anything. It was like my wolf was keeping me there, holding my spirit into my body and then when you marked me..." He shrugged, "It was like I was brought back to life and I could feel the pain again."
"You're really here?" I pressed my forehead to his.
"I'm really here." He cupped my cheek and brought our lips together. It was just for a second, nothing compared to what I needed. "You almost killed yourself Josie."
"I couldn't live without you. You die, I die." My heart ached with the memory of his still, silent chest, "I had to help, you had to live." I dug my fingers into his hair and gripped him firmly to me.
He gently took one of my hands from his head and rested it over his heart. "I'm here and alive."
Relaxing under the thump of his heart, I sighed and kissed my mark on his neck. "You were dead."
He sighed and rocked me softly, "I'm so sorry baby. I tried to get out of there in time."
Anger pulsed through me, "It's not your fault. Maya did this."
Josh froze, "What?"
"In my vision, after you...after you died, Maya ran her hand through your hair and said you guys were even."
Josh's body stiffened and muscles tightened around me, "Are you sure?"
I nodded, "I'm going to kill her."
He kissed my temple, "She will pay but I will handle this."
Pushing out of his lap, I growled, "No. She broke the law. Her wolf is mine." My eyes went white with the power of the Goddess, "She doesn't deserve to be apart of this world."
Josh's eyes widened, "Come back Josie, I need you right now."
My vision went back to normal and I stumbled back. My body felt so weak, I had been sleeping for two weeks. I needed to get back into shape.
Josh stood and walked over to me, "What was that?"
I shook my head and ignored his question, "How did my mom find out?"
He looked at me funny, "I called her when I woke up. I didn't know why you weren't waking and I needed to know what to do. She flew here with your father twelve days ago but he had to return back to his pack. Your brother, Cris and Beth are flying in today. They don't know you've woken up yet."
"What time will they get here?"
"You're Mom is picking them up now." He reached out and forced me to meet his gaze, "What's wrong?"
Pulling away, my body ached, "I need to run."
He looked at me as if I were going crazy, "You need to eat and drink and rest. You just woke up."
"I'm not hungry. I need to get stronger, prepare."
"Not right now. You just woke up, you need to take it easy today. Start tomorrow." He looked so worried, it hurt me more.
"Okay." My stomach growled, "Maybe I am a little hungry."
He pulled me to his chest, "Don't go distant on me. I'm not going anywhere, I promise."
It's exactly what I needed to hear but I fought back the comfort in fear. "What is there to eat?"
He kissed my cheek, "Anything you want."
"Pancakes?"
He smiled and scooped me up in his arms, holding me bridal style, "I can do that."
"You don't have to baby me."
He shook his head, "Just let me, I need this."
I could feel how much he needed this and it was impossible to deny him. Nuzzling up against his chest, I complied and relaxed a little. "You're never leaving my side again."
He nodded, "I can handle that."
Looking up at him, my heart ached with the sight of his bright green eyes, "I thought I'd never see them again."
"Who?"
"Your perfect eyes."
His cheeks blushed softly, "I feel terrible."
"Don't."
Stiffening, he nodded and set me down on the island, "Anything other than pancakes?"
"Bacon and eggs."
He smiled, "Alright." Pulling out some orange juice, he pored a glass, "Here drink this."
Taking the glass, I took a sip and my thirst hit me hard. Downing the drink, I held it out to him, "More?"
He laughed and filled it up, "Thirsty?"
"A little."
He chuckled as he moved around the kitchen and gathered his supplies, "How are you?"
"Same. Who's coming again?"
"Your brother, Beth and Chris, I think. I've been kind of going crazy with you not waking up and Kyle has been handling all that stuff."
"I'll take today off but I need to get strong. Goddess, my wolf, and I want revenge."
He sighed and flipped the pancakes, "We will have this talk tomorrow, can we just relax and enjoy the fact that we are both alive?"
Hopping off the counter, I snuggled up under his arm and kissed his bare chest, "Yes, we can do that."
