Maya screamed at the top of her lungs, "How the hell did he get away!"
I couldn't see the man who stood in front of her, his face was empty - like he didn't exist. He hissed, "You didn't finish the job. My men were slaughtered out there." He slammed his fist to the table, "Who of yours warned them?"
Maya growled, "Watch yourself William!"
He scoffed, "Don't start with that Alpha bull shit, I want answers or I'm out."
She threw something across the room, shattering it, "It's that fucking mate of his! She can see the future."
The unknown man gasped, "She can what?"
Maya rolled her eyes, "She is weak and pathetic, the little girl hides behind the Alpha's but she can't do shit."
He laughed, "Clearly, you're wrong."
"This was your mess up William!"
"No. It wasn't. Now I came here to collect my payment."
She scoffed, "You aren't getting anything until you bring me back his head."
"No, I've already lost too many men for this messed up suicide mission of yours now give me my twelve females you owe me."
Maya snarled, "The deal was eight."
"The price went up, I suggest you get them to me before the week's up."
"Go and have your pick." She waved her hand toward the door, "But only the unmated or the males will go a little crazy."
The man turned and stormed out of the room.Gasping, I shot up in bed as I blinked away the blood in my eyes. My blood was boiling with the vision and I was beyond mad.
Josh rubbed my back, "What is it? What's wrong?"
My anger subsided with the sound of his voice and the feel of his touch. "A vision."
He stiffened, "What of?"
"Maya." I shook my head in disbelief, "I can't see who she is working with but she traded females as a payment."
Josh gasped, "What?"
I ran my fingers through my hair in frustration, "This is getting out of hand. I need to save those girls, I can't let that monster have them!"
Josh kissed my cheek, "Did you get a name or any kind of description?"
"She called him William."
Josh's whole body stiffened as he let his hand fall from my back. "No."
"What? Who is it?"
"Just leave it alone Jo."
Growling, I climbed out of the bed in anger, "You have got to be kidding me!"
His eyes widened in surprised and he hungrily looked me over before shacking his head and sighing, "What are you doing?"
"Trying not to hurt you for even considering keeping this from me."
"It's too dangerous. I will handle this."
My wolf was pissed that her mate doubted her. Growling my fangs dropped and eyes flashed silver. "I'm tired of being doubted Josh!"
His eyes widened, "What the hell Jo?"
"Who is William?"
He shook his head, "Nothing you need to worry about."
"I will figure it out."
"Stop being so dramatic, I can handle this."
Growling, I stormed out of the room.
He followed after me and grabbed my arm, "What are you doing? Get back to bed, it's too early."
Pulling my arm free, I ignored him and stormed down the stairs.
"Stop being like this, it's what's best."
"Leave me alone Josh."
He froze in place, "What?"
"I said leave me alone."
He looked so wounded as he watched himself play with his thumbs.
Cris and Bailey came skipping in through the back door and froze.
Josh growled, "Have you been out all night?"
Bailey blushed, "We were just down at the beach."
Josh shook in anger but I rolled my eyes, "Knock it off Josh. You're pissed at me, don't take it out on them."
Cris frowned, "Is something wrong?"
Josh answered before I could, "No. Get some sleep."
Annoyed and worried, I stormed out of the house, shoving Josh back when he tried to follow, "I said leave me alone! Go back to bed." Before he could argue, I slammed the door in his face and stormed off the porch but could still hear them inside.
Cris sighed, "You're keeping information from her?"
Josh didn't sound angry, he just sounded sad, "How'd you know?"
"We grew up together, it's the only thing that can get her that mad. Want my advice?"
Josh scoffed, "What? Tell her?"
"Yeah. If you haven't noticed yet, Josie always gets what she wants, even if she has to get it the hard way."
He sighed, "She makes it impossible to protect her."
Bailey chuckled, "Because you aren't working together. You both want the same thing - for each other to be safe but that's not going to happen until you work together."
Ignoring the conversation, I stormed off. Sprinting into the woods, I found my way to the pack gym. There weren't any wolves there this early and I was grateful to have the place to myself.
Jumping on the treadmill, I ran for a few hours. I half expected Josh to show up but he never did. It was almost disappointing but I couldn't be mad, I had told him to stay away from me. He was respecting that.
The run seemed to calm my temper down a little bit. I could understand why Josh didn't want to tell me. It wasn't because he didn't trust me or doubted me, he just knew me well enough to know that the second I had my information, I would act. Thinking things through clearly wasn't really my strong suit, I got too lost in the emotional aspect of everything, that I would lose sight of the bigger picture at times.
Sighing at my own epiphany, I decided to finish my workout and then go looking for him. For another hour or so, I lifted weights and then headed to the beach for my swim. I hadn't gone in a while and I could feel my muscles already getting sore and the exhaustion hitting me but I had to push past it.
As the sun began to rise above the horizon, I stripped down into my sports bra and short spandex. Stretching out, I slowly moved into the icy water. There was a strange feeling in the pit of my stomach but I shoved it aside, it was probably my wolf worried about the other females. Diving into the waves, I focused on my strokes. Not letting my mind wander or think about anything else but my task at hand, I lost myself in the workout.
When my body finally was too tired, I stopped and looked back to the shore. I had gone way too far out into the bay and would need to rest if I was going to get back. Flipping on to my back, I floated for a few minutes while I caught my breath. Unfortunately, this didn't last long. The water rippled with the passing of a boat and I looked around, fully alert.
To my right, a boat slowly drifted to me and I sighed. They were probably some humans who thought I was drowning or lost or something. The smell of something rotting filled my nose but I couldn't place the smell. Maybe there was a dead fish nearby or something. With that thought, I looked around only to find that the boat was much closer and a man was waving to me.
He almost looked familiar but still, I couldn't place him. It wasn't until it was too late that realization hit me. He pulled in close to me and leaned over. He reached down and easily snatched me out of the water, "Looks like I caught a break."
That voice was unforgettable, it was William.
My eyes widened and I attempted to use my Luna gifts on him but nothing worked.
He chuckled, "Have you ever seen a vampire before?"
The three men around him laughed.
My heart stopped as realization of my situation sunk in. Panicking, I forced open a mind connection with Josh. I was swimming, I didn't know.
What? Where are you? Why do I feel you freaking out?
William. White and blue speed boat, please...
Before I could finish my sentence, my head was slammed into the side of the boat, knocking me out cold.---------------------------------------------
