I stuck with the kids for most of the day and Mom was very upset with my behavior. But I couldn't help it, there was far too many things to process, this was all so completely messed up. When I did finally emerge from the nursery, I was met with a very angry mother.
"Where have you been?"
"With the kids. It was crazy today."
"What the hell happened to you JoJo? You're acting so different."
"Please calm down. I don't want to talk about it. I'm sorry I wasn't at training but I couldn't have done anything anyway."
She scowled, "I'm going to kick his butt."
My eyes widened, Mom never had made a threat in her life. She was Luna, calming and powerful. "What's wrong with you?"
She shook her head, "Sorry baby girl." She pulled me into a hug, "Goddess is leaving me and my emotions are going crazy."
I nodded, understanding what she was talking about. "It's the same for me. It's like I can't hold on to an emotion for more than a few minutes."
She nodded, "I'm sorry I'm being so hard on you. I just know what's coming for you and want you ready."
"You've been preparing me my whole life. I can do this Mom."
Her eyes welled up with tears, "I know. You can do this but you need to stay focused. Darrow can't distract you like this, you need to figure things out before the full moon."
My heart ached, I didn't want to talk to him, I didn't even want to see him. Why couldn't he just reject me and get it over with? Why is he making me suffer? My wolf growled at me, Stop being stupid. He wants us.
I shook my head. She was wrong, if he wanted me he wouldn't have been with her.
He said he wasn't with her. He said he didn't touch her.
How could I trust that? He is a murderer, all he wants is land and blood.
No! My wolf yelled at me as I trembled in anger. He is good and MINE!
Shoving her back in my thoughts, my Mom led me to the dining room for dinner. "There is good in him Josie." She whispered so only I could hear.
"How can you be so sure?"
"Because if he deserves my beautiful baby girl then he has to be perfect and good. Goddess knows best."
I wanted to believe her but something inside me was holding me back. Instead of arguing, I pushed out all my feelings and nodded as I pulled open the wooden doors. My eyes instantly found Alpha Darrow. He was watching me too, his eyes were wide and black. Maya sat beside him and when she rested her head on his shoulder, my stomach flipped and I turned my attention away. Cris skipped over to me smiling, oblivious to my pain.
"Hey beautiful."
Needing to get out of this place an away from my mate, I jumped on his back and whispered in his ear, "To the kitchen."
He laughed and skipped back out the doors. Before the doors closed I looked back and saw Darrow standing and shaking as he watched me leave with Cris. What was his problem?
Cris huffed, "This may cost me my head."
I looked at him funny, "What?"
He chuckled, "Oh nothing. Why are we going to the kitchen?"
"I need to get away from him. Wanna eat on the roof?"
He laughed, "I wouldn't object to that."
Carrying me to the kitchen, we snagged a little cooler and filled it with dinner before skipping up to the tower. Climbing out the large window, we made our way to the top of the mansion. Taking a seat beside Cris, I watched as he set the cooler down and handed me a piece of pizza before taking one for himself. But I wasn't hungry, instead of eating, I held the food and looked out over the thick forest.
"You need to eat, Josie."
I nodded, "I know but it just makes me sick."
"Did he reject you?" Cris shuttered with his words.
"No."
He sighed in relief, "I won't ask what happened because I know you'll talk to me if you need to but I love you JoJo and I don't want you to suffer."
Taking a deep breath, I handed him my piece of pizza, "I went to go see him after my vision last night. My wolf needed him. But when I got to the door, I could hear Alpha Wilson on the other side." My heart ached.
Cris stiffened and stopped mid bite. He knew what was coming, "What?"
"She was naked, threatening to put her clothes back on." My body shook with the memory as my chest ached.
Cris wrapped me up in his arms but they weren't the arms I wanted. "I know I can't say anything bad about him because it will hurt part of you but you didn't deserve that. You deserve the best JoJo and I'm hoping it was all a misunderstanding. Have you talked to him?"
"No. When he followed after me, he said that nothing happened between them but how could I trust that?"
"I don't know." He sighed, "Leap of faith, you've never been good with that. Maybe this is Goddess' final test for you."
"Maybe but I don't think I'll pass."
"Why not?"
"Because I'm terrified of him." I trembled, "I had to watch as he killed so many and I couldn't do anything about it." I sobbed as I buried my face into Cris' shoulder.
He held me as he rubbed my back but his touch wasn't as calming as it once was. It made me feel more uneasy and aching for Darrow. He kissed my forehead, "It will be okay."
As I moved to wipe my tears away, my mom came into my thoughts. You need to get down here now. The tension is too high and my powers are too much yours now. I can't do this by myself.
I sighed and looked at Cris as I pulled away, "Mom says I have to get back."
He nodded and smiled, "How shall we have fun with this?"
I giggled and rubbed my face, ignoring his question. "Do I look okay?"
His eyes brightened with an idea. He rubbed my head and my braid started to fall apart as he pulled gently on strands. "Sex hair!" He laughed as he continued to fluff my hair.
Rolling my eyes, I attacked him playfully, as I tangled his hair and fluffed it out. "Not funny."
We both burst into laughter as he began to tickle me and I him. We laughed until we couldn't breath anymore and then we sighed and made our way back down to the dining room. When we came to the stairs, Cris smirked at me.
"Race?"
"Ready. Set. Go." I ran down the staircase ahead of him but he easily caught up to me.
Slamming against the door, I was amazed that we hadn't broken it down. He had won but I was so close. We laughed at he ruffled my hair again. "Damn! You're getting good."
"Not too bad yourself." I laughed, "It's probably because you've gotten so big."
He playfully winked at me as he pulled open the doors. Unfortunately, all eyes were on us and they widened as they looked us over. We probably looked like we had just been in a fight or something. My eyes found Darrow's and I froze. They were pitch black. He stood and shook as he walked over to us in a furious anger.
Shoving Cris away from me, he gripped my arms and gently shoved me against the wall, pressing his body to me, "You are mine!" He yelled in my face as his body trembled. He took in a breath and growled, "You stink of him."
My eyes widened as I realized what he was thinking. He thought Cris and I had gone and had sex. I shook my head and whispered low enough for only him to hear. "Unlike you, I don't fuck around."
He snarled as Alphas, Alder, Lane, Johns, and my father all pulled Darrow away from me. He fought against them but his black eyes never left mine. My father moved in front of him as he growled and shook. It was rare to see my father losing control. He punched Darrow across the face, "Never disrespect our Luna like that." Again he punched him but still Darrow looked at me and my heart broke.
I needed to be a Luna now. "Enough." I forced a calm over everyone and they stopped shaking. I took a deep breath, "Please let Alpha Darrow go."
The men looked at me a little confused but nodded and let him go. He growled and ripped his arms free. I could see and feel how hard it was for him to keep his wolf at bay. Seeing the blood ooze from the cuts under his eyes and his lip, my wolf took over.
"Alpha Darrow and I need to talk. We will be back."
Everyone looked at me in horror and shock. Even he looked amazed with my words but he moved toward me without hesitation. My father grabbed his arm and snarled.
Resting my hand on my father, I shook my head, "He didn't hurt me, please no fighting."
Father growled at me but when Mom came over, he froze and pulled her to his chest, instantly calming.
"Would you come with me Alpha?" I looked up at Darrow.
His jaw clenched and he nodded.
My wolf, still in control, snatched up his hand and pulled him out the door. My hand fit perfectly in his and the tingling sensation that ran through my palm was the best feeling. Remembering myself, I pushed back the thoughts and dropped his hand. Continuing my way down the hallway, I led him to the medical room.
He looked at me a little confused, "Why are we here?"
I pointed to his cheek, "You're bleeding."
He shrugged, "It will heal."
Rolling my eyes, I pointed to one of the beds, "Will you sit?"
He scowled but took a seat. "You don't need to do this."
Ignoring his comment, I took some gauze and put a little hydrogen peroxide on it. Carefully I moved into the space between his legs and dabbed the blood from his face. His eyes were back to their bright green and as I worked on the cut on his cheek bone, I could swear I saw a little turquoise in his sparkling eyes. Shaking my head of my thoughts, I focused all my attention on his cut. It was healing fast and I wouldn't need to help it alone.
Taking a deep breath, I started to work on his lip. Without my consent, my thumb brushed his lower lip. It was perfect. I wanted to kiss and...No. I couldn't think like that. I was here to help with his cuts and nothing more."You're healing well." I pulled my hand away and continued to wipe off the blood on his face.
He nodded, "What did you want to talk about?"
My features hardened, "Nothing. My wolf just didn't like to see you bleeding." It was the truth, I just left out that I hated it too - it was heart breaking.
"Look, can I..."
Interrupting him, I shook my head, "I should really get back. Everyone is very uneasy with me being alone with you."
He growled, "You're mine! Who cares what they think. You belong with me!" He shouted as he slipped off the bed.
I took a step back, with my hands up, "Please calm down."
He grimaced and shouted in my face, "Stop looking at me like I'm out of control. If I were out of control I would have killed that pup you were with along with the men who thought is was okay to touch me and take me away from you."
I flinched back with his words and whimpered a little. It hurt to think that he had actually thought about hurting my friends and family. "I'm leaving now."
He stood in front of the door, "No."
"Please move out of the way."
He crossed his arms, "No. You're mine."
I growled as my last bit of hold on sanity slipped from my grasp, "No! I'm not fucking yours!" I shoved at his chest, "You lost that right when I found you with a naked girl in your room! So get out of my way!"
His jaw tightened and look darkened but he didn't move, "Stop being so dramatic."
"Dramatic?" I screamed in anger as I gripped my hair to gain some sort of control, "How would you like it if you knew my hot, naked, sweaty, writhing body was rolling around with someone else. That I was..."
He put his hand gently over my mouth, "Don't even say that."
Ripping away from his touch, I scowled, "Hurts doesn't it?" Before he could catch me, I slipped under his arm and sprinted to my room, locking the door behind me.
I had never felt this out of control before. My wolf was angry with me, furious in fact. She wanted him and she was ready to fight with me for him. Growling, I turned on the shower as I fought her back. Why was she being so difficult? But I didn't want to know her answer. He hurt us.
Once in the shower, I sat down on the floor and let the hot water burn my skin. It was enough of a distraction to calm me down. And that's where I stayed until the water went cold.
