You keep pacing back and forth in your living room, clutching the case files close to your chest, your mind racing with possibilities. The recent murders in Shibuya were keeping you up at night, and it's stressing you out.
You meticulously reviewed the files for hours, ensuring no information was overlooked, when suddenly, the sound of moaning from Toji's bedroom pierced the silence of the apartment. Your irritation grew with every loud groan, each slap echoing throughout the walls. You gritted your teeth, trying to ignore it, but it was impossible.
Unable to take it any longer, you slammed your fist on the table, scattering the papers. "Toji, shut the hell up! Can't you do it quietly for once?" you shouted, your voice trembling with anger.
There was a pause, followed by Toji's deep laughter. "Sorry, Buttercup. Didn't realize I was bothering you."
You growled, returning to your investigation with a grim expression. "I'm serious, Toji. I can't focus with that racket. If you don't shut the hell up, I swear, I'll come in there and silence you myself!"
Their moans ceased abruptly, followed by a muffled thud. But then, soft snickering emerged from behind the closed door.
With a sigh, you returned to your files, only to be met with the resurgence of their moans shortly after. "Son of a bitch..." you mumbled under your breath.
Your frustration boiled over, and you stomped over to Toji's bedroom door. You grabbed the handle, twisting it as hard as you could, but it wouldn't budge. "Dammit, Toji!"
In a fit of rage, you began pounding on the door, the force of each hit reverberating through the thin wood. "Toji! Stop it! Do you hear me? STOP IT!"
The moaning and slapping continued, growing increasingly louder. You slammed your palm into the door "I'm not joking, Toji. This is important!"
But Toji, oblivious to your pleas, persisted in his deafening display. You knew that the only way to stop him was to confront him directly, which meant waiting for him to finish.
Defeated, you spun around. The case files lay scattered across the floor, mocking your failure to focus.
"Fine." you growled, gathering the scattered paperwork. "I'll find somewhere else to work."
Grabbing your coat and umbrella, you left the apartment, and step out into the pouring rain.
You made your way to the nearest coffee shop, the rain beating mercilessly against your umbrella. Once you arrived, the intoxicating smell of coffee permeated the air, tempting you to have one. You stood, leaving your case files untouched. You made your way to the counter and ordered a hot cup of cappuccino.
[2 minutes later...]
The barista efficiently served you the steaming cup of cappuccino, surprising you with his speed. You took a grateful sip, savoring the bitter yet rich taste that warmed your body.
"Y/N?"
You nearly choked on your cappuccino, your heart hammering in your chest as you recognized the voice. You slowly turned to your side, finding Suguru Geto, your ex-boyfriend, standing a few feet away. A wave of emotion crashed against you, and you hesitated, not knowing how to react.
Suguru's smile was warm, inviting, as if nothing had changed between the two of you. And for a moment, you were reminded of simpler times.
"Suguru." you whispered, hesitantly approaching him. You glanced around, checking if Toji or anyone else from your current life was present. When you saw that you were alone, you returned your gaze to Suguru.
"It's been a while." he remarked, extending a hand to you.
You hesitated, but your hand found his in a moment of kindness. "Yes, it has." you shake his hand out of respect.
Suguru seemed to notice the sadness in your eyes. "Are you okay?" He asked, gently squeezing your hand.
"I'm fine. Just...busy with work." You attempted a small smile. "What brings you here?"
Suguru's face became serious as he let go of your hand. "Actually, I'm here on a mission. The higher ups sent me to investigate the recent murders in Shibuya. It seems like there might be a cursed spirit involved."
Your eyes widened, and your grip tightened around the cup. "Really? Have you heard anything new? I've been trying to solve it, but I'm hitting a brick wall."
Suguru's gaze softened. "No, not yet. But I'll let you know if I find out anything."
You hesitated for a moment before gesturing towards the empty seat across from you. "Please, join me. I'd appreciate any insight you have on this case."
Suguru smiled, pulling out a chair in front of you. "Of course. I'm glad to lend a hand."
For the next 30 minutes, the two of you talked about the case, sharing theories and evidence. As the conversation flowed, Suguru noticed the weariness etched on your face. He reached across the table to gently brush a lock of hair from your forehead. "You look tired, Y/N. Are you sleeping well? Eating properly?"
You shrugged, trying to play it off. "It's just the job. But I'm okay."
"I'm glad to see you're still fighting for justice. You always were passionate about protecting others." he said, a sad smile playing on his lips.
There was an awkward silence before Suguru cleared his throat. "Y/N, I-" he stuttered, searching for the right words.
You cut him off, shaking your head. "Don't, Suguru. It's been six years. What's done is done. I understand why you left. I've moved on, and so should you. There's no need to bring up old wounds."
Suguru's eyes held sincere regret. "Still, I owe you an apology. I wasn't mature enough to handle our relationship. I was young and impulsive, and I didn't give you the love and attention you deserved. I should have fought harder for us. I've always regretted leaving you."
You offered him a weak smile. "Don't worry about it. We were young, and we grew apart. It happens. I'm happy that you're doing well. It's better for us both to move forward."
"I never looked at anyone else. Not after I left you. I've regretted losing you every single day. I've been carrying that guilt for so long. Trust me, I've tried to make amends, but I was afraid you'd hate me, but seeing you now, I can tell I was wrong. I'm so sorry, Y/N. I hope you forgive me." Suguru reached for your hand, but you pulled away gently.
"It's alright. I hold no grudges." You gave him a reassuring pat on the arm. "We're still friends, Suguru. That's all that matters."
Suguru let out a sad chuckle, nodding in agreement. "Friends. Yes, that's all we can be now. And that's more than enough. I'm glad we can still talk like this."
The conversation shifted solely to the investigation, and the two of you worked together, sharing insights and speculations. Your friendship during those moments was both professional and productive, providing a supportive and collaborative environment for the case.
As Suguru prepared to leave, he handed you a small piece of paper. "Here's my contact information. Let me know if you need anything. I'm staying in Shibuya for a while. We can meet up again if needed."
You took the paper, smiling gratefully. "Thanks, Suguru. I'll be in touch."
He nodded, offering a warm smile before departing. You watched him go, feeling a mix of nostalgia and relief. Things between you two may never be the same, but you were content knowing that you could still support each other as friends.
