Toji groaned as he slowly regained consciousness, his body aching all over. He blinked his eyes open, squinting against the bright hospital lights. He looked around, taking in the beeping machines and the sterile smell of the hospital room.
And then he saw you, slumped in a chair beside his bed, your head resting on the mattress, your hand still holding his. You looked exhausted, your makeup smudged, your hair a mess. But to Toji, you had never looked more beautiful.
Toji's gaze lingered on you for a moment before he cleared his throat, trying to hide the warmth spreading through him at the sight of you holding his hand. He scoffed, attempting to brush off the moment.
"Don't tell me you've been here all night." he said, his voice gruff. "You look like you've been through the wringer." Toji knew you were still asleep.
He rolled his eyes, trying to hide the concern in his voice. "And why are you holding my hand like that?"
He tried to pull his hand away, but you held on tightly, your eyes fluttering open as you woke up. "Toji." you said, your voice hoarse from sleep. "You're awake."
He scoffed again, looking away. "Yeah, well, I'm not dead. Thanks to you, apparently."
You squeezed his hand, ignoring his attempts to brush you off. "I'm just glad you're okay. I was so worried about you. Do you mind telling me what happened to you last night?"
Toji's face grew warm at your words, and he couldn't help but glance at you again. He saw the genuine concern in your eyes, and it made his heart skip a beat. But he quickly pushed the feeling away, not wanting to acknowledge it.
"Well, don't worry about me." he said, his voice gruff. "I've been through worse. This is nothing." and then he smirked.
Toji never had someone care about him like this before. And it scared him, more than any fight, more than any injury he ever had.
You blinked, taken aback by his dismissive attitude. You had been worried sick about him, and all he could do was act like nothing happened? You felt a surge of frustration, and before you could stop yourself, you pulled your hand away from him and punched his chest.
Toji winced at the sudden impact, his eyes widening in surprise. "What the hell was that for?" he chuckled, despite the pain.
You crossed your arms, glaring at him. "I asked you a question, Toji. What the fuck happened to you? And don't you dare brush it off like it's nothing. You owe me an explanation."
Toji sighed. "Alright, fine. I ran into some trouble last night. There was this...Special Grade Sorcerer. White hair, blue eyes. Strongest bastard I've ever faced. We fought, and let's just say neither of us came out unscathed. But it wasn't my mission, so I left."
Toji knew who it was, but he was keeping some of the details under wraps.
You felt a chill run down your spine as Toji described the Sorcerer. You knew exactly who he was talking about. Gojo Satoru, Suguru's best friend and fellow Special Grade Sorcerer.
But you didn't mention any of that to Toji. Instead, you just nodded, your brow furrowed in thought. "That's dangerous, Toji. You should be more careful next time, okay? I don't want to see you like this again."
Toji smirked, "You know, for someone who claims to hate me, you sure seem to care an awful lot."
You scoffed, rolling your eyes. "Please, I just don't want to have to deal with your dead body in my apartment. It'd be a hassle to clean up."
Toji chuckled, wincing slightly at the pain in his ribs. "Sure, sure. Keep telling that to yourself, Y/N."
Toji glanced at the clock on the wall, feeling concerned about the time. "Hey, it's already past 8. You're gonna be late for work."
