Toji's recovery was surprisingly swift. Within two days, he was already up and moving around, much to the nurses' dismay. They had hoped to have more time to fawn over him, but Toji was having none of it. He was antsy, eager to get back to his normal life.
On the third day, he was back into your apartment, looking healthier than he had any right to be.

[The next day...]
You were in the middle of getting ready for work, rushing around the apartment as you always did. Toji was lounging on the couch, flipping through channels on the TV. You grabbed your bag and headed towards the door, but Toji stopped you.
"Where are you going? It's still early." he asked, looking up from the TV.
"Work. I have a meeting I can't miss." you replied, opening the door. "I'll see you later, okay?"
Toji stood up, grabbing his keys from the table. "I'll give you a ride."
You hesitated, taken aback. "What? No, that's okay. I can take a cab."
Toji rolled his eyes. "Stop being stubborn. I'm offering you a ride. Let's go."
You opened your mouth to argue, but Toji was already heading towards the door, leaving you no choice but to follow. You locked up the apartment and trailed after him, shaking your head. "You don't have to do this, you know. You just recovered from your injuries."
Toji turned around, raising an eyebrow. "Do I look dead to you? 'Cause I sure as hell don't feel like it. Now come on, let's go. I ain't got all day to wait for you."
"Fine." you sighed, giving in.
You climbed into the front seat of Toji's car, buckling your seatbelt as he started the engine. You sat quietly, looking out the window, but you could feel Toji's gaze on you every now and then.
"What's wrong?" Toji asked, glancing at you again. "You keep rubbing your eyes."
You waved him off. "It's nothing. Just some dust, probably."
Toji immediately pulled over to the side of the road, turning to face you. "Let me see." he said, cupping your chin gently in his hand. He leaned in close, examining your eye. "It's red."
Toji put the car back in gear, speeding off down the street. "We're going to the pharmacy. I'm not having you show up to your meeting with red eyes."
You sighed, leaning back in your seat. "Toji, you do--"
"I know I don't have to." he interrupted. "But I want to. So just shut up and let me do this."
"Wait here." he said, getting off the car before dashing towards the pharmacy to buy an eye drops.
You rolled your eyes, but you stayed in the car as instructed. A few minutes later, Toji returned, holding a small bottle of eyedrops. He leaned across the center console, tilting your head back gently with his free hand.
"Open your eyes." he commanded softly.
You did as he said, feeling the cool liquid drop into your eye. You blinked, trying to adjust to the sensation.
"How does that feel?" Toji asked, his voice low and soft. He was still leaning close, his hand cupping your cheek gently. "Any better?"
You swallowed hard, suddenly aware of how close he was, how his thumb was brushing softly against your skin. "Y-yes, it feels better. Thank you."
Toji held your gaze for a moment longer before finally pulling back, starting the car again. "Good. Now, let's get you to that meeting of yours."
