They stood in the corner of the cafeteria and listened to Fae explain everything her and Mama Ashley had spoken about. The different floors, the different ages and the set out of each floor.
Then there was silence amongst them. They were brainstorming ways on how they would escape and save most of the kids within the Institute.
"The walls on the upper floor are made of glass." Lamark spoke up.
Everyone turned their attention to Lamark when he started. "Why would the walls be glass?" Manny asked him. Everyone nodded their heads to his question as they all wondered the same thing.
"Well Fae did say that the offices are on the first floor so that means that if the walls are glass they're probably monitoring the activities of the ocean." Linda explained. "Yeah that actually makes sense. So if we were to escape, it would have to from the first floor?" Melissa asked, as she stared at everyone's faces of the group, but tingling a little longer on Fae's before passing on.
"Yeah most likely, but I'm not leaving without Roach, or the outcasts." Dylan shook his head. "Me too and wait what? Outcasts?" Manny's eyebrows furrowed in confusion. "Yeah... that's what we call the kids who are about to die." Evan said. Dylan hit him on the arm.
He winced and whispered his apologies as he rubbed his arm. "Okay, we can do this. We can work in movements. I'll start first by going to the bottom floor and getting Roach with the outcasts. From there we can work our way up to the top floor. Making sure to get as much people as we can."
"How are you going to get to the bottom floor without one of those keycards?" Melissa asked Dylan. "I'll help." Evan spoke up and rubbed Dylan's shoulder. Just tell me when.
"We'll do this at night, but the rooms are locked..." Dylan bit on his finger as he thought about the next part of the plan.
"I can help with that part. Leave it to me Dylan." Lamark spoke in a nervous tone.
Fae looked at Dylan, then Lamark. ''I can help too. Ashley's got a keycard to the floor down under.. She's the one who took me there in the first place. I can ask her.'' Fae folded her arms before looking around at everyone, a little longer at Evan. Seeing Melissa's stare, she scrunched her eyebrows. ''What?'
Melissa shook her head while Dylan continued speaking. "That's perfect. If you can convince her to give you her card, tell her to drop it off at my room's door and knock. That would let me know that she did it. Lamark, you can't take long; if you think you can get me out fast enough, then I trust you."
Dylan shot a determined look at Lamark. He finally had a responsibility which made him smile. He nodded his head which made Dylan ruffle up his hair.
Taking the moment; Dylan looked at the faces that were Infront of him. How each person there was about to risk their lives for the strangers. They all had their own stories, their own journeys but yet somehow they were brought together. In the real world they would have passed each other and wouldn't have thought twice about it.
Linda and Manny caught a look of this and smiled back. They were some twisted family, joined by a common difference and enemy. They had to work together in order for this plan to work.
"Wait Dylan, your ankle bracelet." Melissa looked down. Evan chuckled, "Caleb can help with that, don't worry. Are we ready team?"
Everyone nodded their heads. This had to work. For the people. Their revolution started now.
''I say let's get to work.'' Fae smiled as looked at Evan, then she put out a hand towards Melissa. ''I don't know what you've got against me, but please, put it behind you for now.''
