Dylan stared through the glass in disbelief. Fae joined him and smiled, as she gasped in happiness. Evan walked slowly towards them to look at the boy. He was confused and unable to understand the importance as too how much this meant to Dylan and Fae, or to the other children here for that matter.
They walked up to the door, pushed down the handle and entered. It was cooler inside the room because of the ventilation which led to them rubbing their arms. Fae and Dylan walked up to Lamark's body whereas Evan took a spot near the door, with his arms folded.
"Hey buddy, it's time to get up now." Dylan whispered soothingly next to Lamark's ear, pushing a small strand of hair out of his face. The sounds of the machines, beeping next to him, as Lamark breathed through the pipes in and out of his body. Dylan looked at the machines, and the jagged lines. Falling, then spiking in green and red. It had been his vitals. Something was wrong with Lamark and this made Dylan feel distraught.
Fae, standing next to Dylan, lays a hand on his shoulder. "Give him time. He's been like this for god knows how long. Poor boy." She rubs Dylan's back as a sign of comfort, before wrapping her arms around his shoulders.
"Now, what's the plan from here?" She looks at Dylan, then Evan.
"What's up with him?" Evan asked from behind them. Dylan look over at him, and then back at Lamark. "I don't know, we need him to wake up, because as Fae and I explained, he really is important. He was here before any of us."
"Shit. So he's like some sort of God?" Evan steps forward slowly, but Fae shoots him a look with her squinted eyes which made him realize his comment was stupid. He scratched the back of his head, and stops by the foot of the bed.
In the distance, a ding announced that the elevator had arrived on the floor.
For a few seconds, nothing else can be heard, then the sound of crocs shuffling on the floor can be heard as there's a muted bleep from the door.
"Do you guys hear that?" Dylan's head swings as his body goes stiff from being alert. It felt as if all the blood was being drained from his head down. Evan ran out of the door and looked down the hall. Fae grabs Dylan's arm. "Quick. Hide. Someone's coming!" She looks around. "Where the fuck do we hide in this dump?"
Dylan looked at Lamark and the two separate faces. "Evan go and check if one of those rooms are open. Do it now, we don't have much time!" Dylan instructed and with that Evan didn't argue. He ran into the other room, looking back at Fae to see if she was following.
Fae stood still for a moment. ''Dylan... what about you?'' Breathing heavily she grabbed his hand, holding on to her grip.
"I'm coming too, but someone needs to be here in case it doesn't work. Quick, go now!" Dylan shot her a stern look. He moved her with his other hands as he heard the door hinges moving.
With her first glance at Dylan, she started running towards Evan, Putting her trust in Dylan. Evan grabs her hand and they get into the room next to Lamark, steadily. Silently closing the door, they hide.
Dylan ran up to Lamark's bed. "We will be back! Okay I promise!" He turned around, knocking into a metal table, in which shook the contents within creating a loud clinging nose.
The door swung open, the hinges creaking as it goes. Evan grabbed Dylan's shirt fast enough for him to make it into the other room. He held his hand on Dylan's mouth preventing his loud pants to be heard.
In the distance, the door slides open and the crocs can be heard approaching.
Dollerhove walks up to the bed, checks the monitors and presses a button that causes the monitors to spit out streams of paper, showing the heart rate, ECG and a few other details. The strips of paper she tacks on to a sheet on her clipboard.
