I should not have put off actually inviting Anthony to the big date I had planned, but I couldn't help it. I don't know if I was more nervous that he would say yes or that he would say no, but either way, I was jittery as hell. I took a deep breath and closed my eyes for a moment before pulling the trigger.

Me: Do you have any plans for tomorrow?

Anthony: No. I think Marcus and James wanted to go bowling, though. We can join them if you want.

Me: Actually, I kinda had something in mind

Anthony: ?

Me: It's a surprise

Me: If that's ok

Me: :[]

Anthony: Yeah, that's fine. How should I dress?

Me: Um

Me: There isn't a specific dress code

Me: But I'm probably going to dress up a little bit

Anthony: Ok... What time?

Me: I can pick you up around 7:30?

Anthony: Ok, that works for me.

Me: Ok! : )

Me: It's a date : )

Now that I had set my plan in motion, I was sweating bullets. I was taking a huge gamble with this. Val had helped me plan things out, and I was pretty sure my feelings were mutual, but I still wasn't 100% sure about how Anthony would react. It was too late to back out now, though. I took a deep breath and slapped my hands on my knees, bracing myself to head to the store and get the remaining supplies I needed.

I pulled up in Anthony's driveway, more nervous than I had ever been in my entire life. I was wearing a button-up shirt with rolled-up sleeves and a pair of gray slacks. I was only able to push aside my instinctual reaction to worry about my appearance because Val picked out my clothes and helped me get ready. Unfortunately, that left me to worry about the rest of the night I had planned, which was way worse.

Anthony must have been watching for me because he slipped out the front door before I even got the truck in park. He poked his head back in with a frown, likely chastising James for something, before slamming the door and angrily strutting towards my truck.

"Hey, Ben. Sorry about that. James is... James," Anthony said with a sour look back towards the house.

"I feel like I know what you mean," I said with a nervous chuckle. "You, um... you look really nice." Anthony was also dressed in slacks and a button-up, although he was wearing darker colors than me. He also had on the pair of earrings he wore to The Woods. I don't know why, but that made my stomach do a little flip.
